If, in fact I've visited the Luxor post MGM acquisition, and hadn't laid eyes on this alleged "top-quality historic detail..." ; does that really make me the pessimist? That you felt compelled to inject Diane into this doesn't exactly restore your broken leg to stand on.

Moving on... I tend to think that the 'Old Vegas' (which one can still walk) is of the same ilk. People tend to romanticize the former glory because it's a relic from a previous era. Kind of like how the old 50-60's films have more hollywood glamour than anything churned out in the 21st Century.

Now, we're left with hack celebs that fancy themselves political commentators.

SIN, it's obviously up to you how much magic you find in persons, objects, situations.

I don't visit the Strip looking down my nose at "kitch". When I visit Paris, New York, or Venice, that's exactly where I am. The Monte Carlo has only about a 2-block simulation area, but that's enough for me.

I really mourn the original Luxor, and I also miss the really superb Star Trek simulation that used to be at the Hilton. Lilith's & my favorite buffet is the one in Paris: great food and a variety of dining environments around France. A gondola ride in the canals of the Venetian is a bit of an improvement over the original, since those double as Venic's sewer system!

If you ever find yourself in San Luis Obispo, don't miss the Madonna Inn. If you can't find a room here for your personal taste/fantasy ... \:D

I love the Madonna Inn. Never stayed there, but did eat there once. They have some of the best apple pie in the world.

Not to mention the unforgettable experience of the MI's men's room, wherein one breaks a hidden light beam and pees into a suddenly-flowing waterfall down a rock wall. As Captain Willard said in Apocalypse Now, "Only the Americans could biuild a place like this in the middle of the jungle. Only the Americans would want to."

The last time Lilith and I were there, we stayed in the Madonna Suite, which looked like a set from "The Flintstones". The shower in the bathroom was another optical-beam stone waterfall, etc. \:D

St. Louis has a themed-room hotel, though not nearly as elaborate as the MI. We stayed in the "Tarzan suite", which resembled a jungle with the bed up in a "tree". No comment concerning the evening's activities.

Back in SLO, the other famous eatery is the Apple Farm. Some decades ago California had a serious water crisis. When I went into the AF men's room there was a cooperative sign over the toilet bowl: "Non-Potable Water". I thought about this for a moment, then found the manager and complained indignantly: "Now what are your guess supposed to do if they get thirsty in there!?" I can't remember what his answer was.

I used to collect creative restaurant restroom names. I can remember a couple: In a seafood place: BOUYS/GULLS. In Santa Barbara's SPCA: POINTERS/SETTERS.

Magic isn’t found in relics. It’s found in your head . One can appreciate the arts without turning their manufacture into icons. Case in point, the 90’s really did a number on Madonna’s psyche. In her effort to maintain her edge in the market she used a butter knife. Casinos are, at the very least, a decent theater for people watching.

Best done alone vs in groups.

I take your point, of course, that persons can project their own feelings into objects.

However there is also a significant body of evidence that certain objects, lights, music, angles, etc. can evoke similar responses in people. Cf. Mortensen's "command to look" and so on.

There's also the deeper question of whether what I've discussed previously as "Thought Fields" can attach to objects, buildings, locales ... haunted houses, blasted heaths, and etc. This is a topic a bit bigger than this thread; I've touched briefly upon it in MindStar, but a thorough investigation still awaits. It would be fun, lot of stuff to follow up on, but I'm not sure I have the time or energy.

Before he founded the CoS, Anton went on a binge of haunted house exploration, and on the TOS reading list there are two old paperbacks, HH & More HH, which detail some of it.

I do know that there are certain places, buildings, etc. which give me the creeps for no obvious reason, including at first encounter. I don't buy it all cold turkey, but I don't turn my back on it either.

Certainly. It accounts for our aesthetics, eh? There is an attraction to the arcane (even when demystified) for reasons. Though, I wouldn't say collectively that it's emotional.

Reiterating "Alone vs. in Groups", when there is no one to bear witness, do you still keep your face to it?

I received my copy yesterday, and it seems as though they'd corrected the original cut-off Ankh cover before sending it out. I got the Sphinx cover. Oh, well.

That aside, I'm excited to dive in, when I'm finished with several other books I'm reading at the moment. I had no idea you were even writing a new book this year. Really cool to see you so active on the book side considering your brush with death.

Concerning the Apple Farm in SLO, my ex and I used to stop there all the time and get pies to bring back home (SF). I love SLO, it has one of my favorite Rock and Roll Memorabilia shops, though the name escapes me, as I haven't been in over a decade.

I really miss the west coast, so when you bring it up, it makes me wistful. Alas, at least I'll be visiting and kissing the soil late next month, as the wife and I will be travelling back to SF and staying in a vacation rental in the Castro district for 9 days. This will be my first time back to the west coast since I moved from SF in March of 2005, so, I'm brimming with excitement.

That leaves an open door if you'd like to meet up for lunch, as we'd previously spoken about in emails.

Hope you're well, and I'll shoot you an email as our trip dears nearer, to see if you're up and about enough to have lunch or coffee somewhere.

This book is hilarious. You really are pissed at the AMORC, aren't you?

Haven't finished it yet, but it is clear that you felt a little pushed out by an "order" that you don't much care for.

I do, however, get a couple of laughs out of it. You kind of whip the whole thing into what it should be in this book, but in a snarky, almost pissy way. I LOVE THAT. Don't hold back.

There is a theme happening with all of your recent books so far that is giving away some pretty basic outlines for black magic. Laid out bare, easy to grasp stuff.

Although this is said to be a right hand path prescription, you weren't doing so so easily....it all leads back to Set and Ancient Egyptian neteru in some way. The consistency is noted and admired.

Cheers.

I hadn't intended IlluminAnX to sound emotional in any way, except just "observationally humorous" here and there.

Understand that the Innsmouth lecture series was invited because of the inhabitants' genuine concern that they were/are surrounded by a surgace-human culture which is completely and dangerously insane in matters of religion & metaphysics. The series was to come up with at least a model of corrective sanity, though actual implementation remains a formidable obstacle.

I had originally supposed initiatory RHP to at least be somewhat more rational than the mass slave-religions, and that AMORC was probably the most polished. Quite surprising and disappointing to find that it was rather a step or two down on the wackiness scale.

So the latter part of the research project was to see whether it could be fixed. I think it could be, as outlined, but I'm not holding my breath that it will have the sense to do so. But maybe the book will nudge it in some positive directions.

The slave-religions habitually can't get beyond the concept of Satanism as an inversion or lampoon of their own superstition. In reality that's not at all the case: Satanism is rather an escape from it altogether.

Satirized by Anton in his "Madness of Andelsprutz", one of the CoS Appendices.

Finished the book. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Are you aware of anyone in the AMORC being privy to it?

Considering the contents of the book, I'd bet that even if they have read it, they're gonna pretend like they haven't. They at least know it exists though. I know because I actually wrote to 'em recently specifically asking them if they've read it (cuz I'm awfully curious to see their response.)

I sent them this:

"I recently got done reading 'IlluminAnX: Rosicrucianism Reawakened' by Michael Aquino. I found his account of his time in AMORC interesting, but what I found far more fascinating were his proposed revisions to the AMORC system.

"I've been trying to find anything from AMORC addressing Dr. Aquino's ideas, and his account of his own experience in AMORC, but have not had much success. So, I thought I might as well write the Order directly and see if you've read Aquino's work, and if so, would you care to offer any insights into its contents? I would be greatly interested in hearing the Order's opinions on Aquino's ideas."

This was their entire response:

"We are very sorry however we have not read Michael Aquino’s book."

Haha! I expected a typical response, as such. I find it bizarre that no one else has looked into just how piecemealed and limp their “order” is. Too bad they won’t allow a perspective such as Aquino’s to marinate and cause some change; they’d have a ‘real deal’ on their hands. Instead, it’s nothing more than a glorified museum with a role playing game (albeit a nonsensical and frustrating one) under the guise of an order.

I've read a few of your books and enjoy them. While I can read the Kindle copies on my phone, they are unavailable on my Paperwhite. I assume because of the color. Is there any plan for black and white versions to be available on the Paperwhite?
