Well that's the kind of popularity I'm talking about... where I can gain obscene amounts of money and still attract as much notoriety as possible- by doing things LIKE getting an inverted cross (I'd prefer a Pentagram though) on the courthouse lawn... basically taking every opportunity to troll those with sensitive religious beliefs.

If course it's ridiculously impossible, and it would all be very silly in practice. But I can daydream.

But I understand what you mean. Most people wouldn't care unless you're making some deliberate effort to push it in people's faces, or your Satanism is so flagrantly public that it endangers your company's reputation... which is unlikely, but still...

Part of it also seems to me Zebu too that unless the media declares it a threat nobody pays attention. I mean during the Satan scare in the 80's I was a teenager and scared a hell of a lot more people much easier without even trying (ahh the good ol' days). I mean graffiti pentagrams would make it on the local news and everyone was playing Ozzy records backwards. Now Ozzy has a fucking cell phone commercial. So I suppose on the other hand if some dumbass did something really stupid, happened to be wearing a Baphomet sigil he just got at Hot Topic, and it made Fox News, I might have to move to Norway to get some peace and quiet. ( The public is manipulated so easily it’s obscene when you really think about it. I’m surprised it’s not easier to take over the world.)

I know what you mean. Ozzy used to be viewed as Satan incarnate; now he's portrayed more along the lines of a light-hearted weirdo.

I've never seen any Baphomet sigils at Hot Topic, and only rarely do I come across inverted pentagrams (except on band t-shirts). That hints that their might be an untapped vein of public outrage left in Satanism. Of course the whole paradigm would have to be presented in a different view to make it more relevant to modern times- what LaVey termed "creative blasphemy"- and put a special focus on doing away with up-to-date sacred cows.

When I was a kid I bought pentagrams at Spencer Gifts and inverted them myself and if Hot Topic doesn't have Baphomet sigils yet I'm sure they will(gonna follow up on this on my next trip to the mall though). How about that band who rounded the top two points so the inverted Pentagram looks like a heart. I think that's sweet. Commercialism white washes everything, so some creative blasphemy may be just what we all need to spice things up again.

Yeah, the only place I've ever seen inverted pentagrams would be in online stores or some small occult shops...

The heartagram is pretty lame, considering whenever I see it, I think of all the loser poser-goths in high school who would wear it every day.

But I do have a certain fondness for blatantly "Satanic" or "evil" things sarcastically repackaged to look like kid-friendly, whimsical, or "cutesy" things. (such as the "Azazel is my Homeboy" design I posted in the image subforum)

Oh shit Zebu I have a wallet with a Baphomet sigil. So there you go with public Satanism. Everey time I buy something the cashier knows just who the fuck I am. I got it in a fairly normal music store. The wallet (with a long metal chain) was right next to the ones with Slipnot and Misfits skulls on them. (Who am I kidding this is way off topic. Maybe we should do a thread on how we feel the public percieves Satanism.) I wonder how the Knights Templar would feel about Baphomet wallets?

The Knights Templar would probably facepalm, because

1. They never worshiped Baphomet or conducted any blasphemous rituals; those were completely false charges fabricated by King Philip IV so he could arrest/banhammer the Templar and steal all their l33t jewgolds.
2. Baphomet is actually just a corrupted spelling of "Mohammad", and the whole thing about the "Sabbatic Goat" was a bunch of bullshit Eliphas Levi pulled out of his ass in the 1800s.

Well Zeb, if he pulled the goat thing from his ass, then he must have had a bible stuck up there as well.

"When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth [his] sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. "

As for what the Knights Templar did or did not do, is up for argument since non of us were there. I'm sure many of us did some research and read the materials on them; as well as the Illuminati, and others. However, personally, I'm not convinced that the history of either group is accurate. I have my beliefs regarding the matter, but I realize that those beliefs are mainly just a romantic occult image I have of them (personally as people who were smart enough to play the game of religion while having their own agenda) but I realize that my image of them, is just as bullshit, as most of what has been writen about them.

The idea that Baphomet was a corruption of Mahomet or Mohammed has been around a long time, but I personally am of the opinion that it's probably more correctly derived from the Sufi Muslim term, "abufihamet," which translates to "Father of Understanding".

A moderate and almost mystical branch of Islam, the Sufis inhabited many of the same areas that the templars did, including Spain, where they were well established and lived pretty much in peaceful coixistence with their Christian neighbors until the purges of all non-Christians from Spain, along with Jews and others.

Also, at Krak Mogador, in Morocco, there are carvings in the walls of the Templar castle, one of which is a goat's head, looking nothing like "Baphoment" to be sure, but it's there nonetheless, along with other carvings. Mogador has long been a place of mystery for the Arabs and was heavily populated by Sufis, who traded with the Templars, being opposed to violence as a tenet of their faith. (Even today the Sufis do not generally suppor the concept of Jilhad.) Their main source of trade? Goats and sheep. The word Sufi is actually derived from the Arabic word "suf," - wool.

Anyway... they Sufi are still around today, and most people know them as mystics and aesthetics. The most famous of the Sufi are the Dervishes that flourish throughout the whole of the Muslim world.

Yeah, goats were generally associated with the whole "left hand path" idea, as evidenced by the legends of Azazel (whose patron animal is the scapegoat), and Jesus's "sheep on the right, goats on the left" thing.

But the whole image of an anthropomorphic Demonic-Goat God as some legendary icon of Hermetic wisdom, connections with the Kabbalistic Sephiroth, the city of Mendes, the "flame of enlightenment", androgyny, etc... that was all made up in early-modern times by romantic occultists like Levi. And no relation between Baphomet and goats is ever drawn until the dawn of modern occultism.

Even the name "Baphomet" itself is a gross misnomer.

"Daily they impose new defeats on us: for God, who used to watch on our behalf, is now asleep, and Bafometz [Mohammad] puts forth his power to support the sultan."
-written by a Christian before the fall of the Templar

There's more quotes but that's the only one I could pull in a few minutes. Early Christians thought that Muslims worshiped the Devil, so it only took a little bit of superstitious medieval imagination to think that Mohammad was some demonic heathen idol.

I have a rather passionately obsessive hatred for the whole Baphomet image, but since it's so incorrigibly entrenched in modern culture-mythology, there's nothing I can really do about it.

How about Saturn?

The "old sun", last of the "old-school" planets - the ancient king. Capricornus - the goat-fish-thing?

How come no one talks about Saturn these days... \:\(

I'm a Capricorn, yes, I like piña coladas, and getting caught in the rain, I'm not much into health food, but I'm into champagne...

(And, thank you, I think my penis size is at the very least... average.)

1. My comment was in reference to the commercialization of traditional Satanic images.

2.It was meant to be humorous. (ha, ha, right?)

3. Most occult legend is just that and most romantic ideologies should be taken lightheartedly. (It's fun to romanticize.)

4. I could give a shite about Knights Templar FAQ and really don't want a history lesson. If this were a Templar thread I wouldn't even be here.

5. Everything I care to know about the Knights Templar I can find on the History Channel.

6. The difference between book smarts and street smarts should be noted. (Keep your guns in your pants.)

I proudly admit it, I told my parents, and so they kicked me out. They're ignorant Christians who think in black and white; they're white, I'm black. So they put me in a psychiatric hospital. They won't listen to me when I'm trying to explain what Satanism really is, or, what it means to me.

I wear various shirts, from Bandshirts to shirts with symbol of Baphomet.

I don't preach all day but if people verbally attack me, or are just being curious I know what to say and how to say it. Satanism have gave me so much self-esteem!

re: AntiChris

I know, forgive me; I just get spontaneously enraged about those topics because I often end up running into idiotic conspiracy theorists who think the whole worldwide Satanic-Illuminati-Conspiracy crap is actually true.

and now for something a bit more on topic:

==========

re: Daafje

If I were you, I'd drop the whole rebellion thing and deal with your parents, unless you're ready to call yourself truly self-dependent (and since you're still living with your parents, you're probably not). If they're getting you therapy over it; they're not going to listen to you, or try to understand your ideas.

Or maybe there are more legitimate reasons your parents are getting you psychiatric help.... although when my parents first found out, they wanted to do the same, even though I was the honors-enrolled goody-two-shoes of the family.

And while Satanism may give one a sense of empowerment, it's not really a "self-esteem booster" by any stretch of the imagination.
