Mostly I watch anything. I suppose my list of favorite shows would be:

House
Criminal Minds
The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Project Runway

I like T.V. dramas, like Law and Order, most crime shows except CSI, and most cartoons. I watch a lot of anime too. Recently I've been watching reality T.V. because it's on. Project Runway, America's Next Top Model, and things like that. Also all of those stupid VH1 count down things and stuff, like Reality T.V. Stars: Where are they now? and 50 Least Metal Moments. Stupid stuff really. Partly I wish they would put something interesting on television, and partly I wish I could separate myself from the allure of the glowing box.

What do you watch?

When I don't have any academic projects hanging over my head...

Colbert Report
Family Guy
Heroes
Daily Show
Torchwood
Scrubs

Pretty much in that order. Most via my computer while I'm cycling or on the treadmill.

I don't watch a lot of T.V. cause of the lack of interest i have for commercials as they seem to all get worse and worse every day. Some shows i watch though before i go to sleep or to class are:

Family Guy
Drawn Together
Scrubs
House
Daily Show

And on some occasions if i happen to stay up late i will watch some anime like:

Dragon Ball (Regular, Z, GT)
Inuyasha
Ghost in the Shell
One Piece

I watch movies more often than i watch shows though, mostly because HBO and Starz don't run commercials.

I love Casualty. It's basically a UK version of ER, which demonstrates nicely the problems with our NHS.

As for transatlantic imports - South Park is pretty fucking hilarious. It can be quite insightful too at times.
I loved the movie Bigger, Longer and Uncut (released back in '99 so a bit dated now) - I still count it high up on my list of all-time favorites. It really turned swearing into an art... \:D

T.V.?

That's that ugly screen in the living room yea?

The one that old people and kids sit around drooling at?

Never got into it. .

Although Australia has a few unique shows i used to dig.

CNNNN (A parody of CNN - fucking funny too, if a little soft, but meh, they've got to stay on air)

It's spin off, Chasers War On Everything. (These are the guys that got passed the security perimeter during the recent AIPAC meeting in Oz, dressed as Osama Bin Laden - you might have heard about it).

And way before that there was a show called John Saffran's Musical Jamboree. Hilariously subversive show pitched as a behind the scenes music program.

I used to watch Rowan Atkinson's Blackadder too.

And The Office as well. That was really good. The American version is terrible. The British original was great.

Well worth punching in the first three into You Tube for those non Aussies; CNNNN, Chasers War On Everything and Musical Jamboree or just John Saffran.

Pretty crazy TV.

You know it's terribly funny how many people start with, TV don't watch it, yet go on to list many a program.

Apparantly it's uncool to watch TV. Meh, like undeadridinghood I'm a bit of a pop culture whore, it's a bit of people watching without having to leave the house.

Atkinson was pretty funny in Mr Bean.

I enjoy British comedy as well as the transatlantic kind.
'Bottom' is/was a hilarious show - very crude too. Lots of 'nut cracking' slapstick. A live show of theirs was based around a plan to seduce the Queen \:D

The movie version of Bottom, 'Guest House Paradiso', featured a very un-PC comment about the late Princess Diana.

Caused quite an uproar I believe ;\)

Seems like House is pretty high on most people's lists. I was skeptical about this season, losing the old team and all, but so far it's pretty good, which is exciting. Of course, I think they're going to bring everyone back to their old positions, they're already back on the show and I've heard rumors to that affect on the internet, but I like some of the new guys too.

Not a lot currently, but when I do, it's pretty tasteless stuff. For example, "Flavor Of Love" and "I Love New York". We all know these shows are the worst, but it's like a car accident...I can't stop watching! I hope that I didn't share too much...

I watched Flavor of Love: Charm school. It was interesting. Turn reality television's most disgusting bitches into respectable, responsible human beings, all within the construct of the same reality genre that made them such horrible, one dimensional people in the first place. Oddly enough, I think it may have actually worked on a few of them, which is surprising.

TV. Im not big on the TV and spend the majority of my time on the internet.

But I do watch

For new shows.

LOST
House
Hells Kitchen
Boston Legal

But I truly believe most modern shows are moronic crap, and so I collect and often watch classics on DVD like;

The Dick Van Dyke Show
The Bob Newhart Show
Taxi
Barney Miller
My favorite Martian
Adams Family (original)
Columbo

(yes, I'm an old coot.)

I watch cartoon series, such as spongebob squarepants and the simpsons. It's very funny. I'm rolling on the floor of laugthing every time, if I watch those two series. THe content is very stupid but even funny...

I also like home-working series. I laugth, if they hurt their hands itself for many times by an electrical drill or a saw. their many instable constructions, because they forget to put steel rods in their concrete walls or all the short circuits because they try to connect a wall socket correctly... In a specal case, anybody tried to tile the floor of a small bathroom. He used branch cutting shears to fit the tiles in the edges of the room. After this action he tried to replace the old toilet. The new one was a few miliimetres higher than the old one so he had many further problems... \:D

I know this sounds like I'm trying to be different for the sake of being different, but I really enjoy watching Public Access cable TV. We have some unbelievable stuff here...homemade movies, talk shows, and some of the most awe-inspiring religious tripe on the planet. It's like a car accident you can't rip your eyes away from.

Whenever we have a shuttle docked at the International Space Station, I like to watch NasaTV. They alternate shots of Mission Control, the animated flight path/graph, and a real-time camera pointed at the Earth. I'll leave it on and fall asleep (very soothing to watch), and usually it's dead quiet (no audio on the MC cam), but occasionally there will be a short burst of transmissions that will be super-loud, usually when I'm dead asleep at 3am. I need to remember to turn on the mute next time.

I have this Idea for a reality show called "Extreme Lookie Loo" where we listen to police and fire fighter scanners and run around with a camera on the streets and high ways like we were chasing a tornado, for accidents and stuff. the dialogue of the driver while we're driving to the scene makes the show. Whose with me on this one?

I like watching Man vs Wild, they show some good survival skills to which you could use in real life. To many shows has things on it that only can happen in the movies and never in real life so I usually don't waste my time on the sitcoms.

I friggin hate commercials thats got to be the worst thing on TV. I will be watching a show and as soon as a commercial comes on I change the channel. I don't need to be told what I need to buy in life. Commercials are just a way to make people feel they need all the things you see on commercials.

If I watch TV, it's Heroes, Skins (I'm so looking forward to the new series. Shame I haven't got freeview.... \:\( ), and I've recently got into 24. Other than that, I don't really watch TV. I'm either too busy with painting or video-games. Or conversing with friends over MSN and checking my dviantART page constantly.

hmm im an avid lover of japanese animation, i like to watch shows like Naruto, and Bleach which are massive series, talking of which i should really catch up on those i missed out on a lot ROFL
The problem with me is no matter how good a series is, im so half assed and lazy, i can only ever be bothered to watch really long series when something strikes me to watch it, like if theres an epic fight or certain storyline surrounding one particular character.
Other than my japanese animes, i like my great british soap operas, i dont know if you guys even know about the grimness that surrounds english soap Easteners, or the delights of Corination Street.. total win ^_^

Nip Tuck
Sapranos
Real Sex
Breaking bad
And yeah any cartoon on adult swim.

I perfer to to be involved in the world so I perfer to be outside of my home whenever possible. So I'll catch some of the shows i like when i run across them.

I'm a TV Whore. Yes, that's right, I said it. I am not ashamed.

Here is what I like to watch:

The Colbert Report
Talk Sex with Sue Johanson (Unfortunately, she has retired. I miss her.)
Family Guy
Bleach
South Park
What Not To Wear (I've learned so many tips.)
Nip/Tuck
Dirt
House
Bizarre Foods with Andrew (Can't remember his last name)
Tyra Banks Show (If all other shows are not on, I watch her show, but sometimes she can be very annoying, so I turn off the TV and sleep.)
LA Ink/ Miami Ink
Spongebob Squarepants (I need to satisfy the child within me.)

Some of my favourite TV shows:

Columbo (this is bordering on obsession)
South Park
Blackadder
Red Dwarf
Twin Peaks
The L Word
The Tudors
Cracker (another bordering on obsession)
Any psychological thriller type things
Most adaptations of decent novels
America's (or anywhere elses) Next Top Model
Project Runway
Brasseye
The Larry Sanders Show

I used to love Coronation Street but alas I can't watch it here \:\(

Yes, I'm a TV junkie. I've heard it rots the brain but interestingly (to me anyway) the people I've met who brag about not watching TV for this very reason are often a bit stupid.

i never watch tv, not because I don't like it at all, but mostly because my real life is so much more entertaining.

I watched the Sopranos on video and I watched Metalocalypse, that's about it. PBS sometimes has kids shows on so I watch those by proxy, I enjoyed Sagwa when it was on, cute cats to feed my cute cartoon fixation....

I havn't really sat down and watched tv in 6 months though....i only go to the theatre because a family member gets free tickets and the kids love movies...

I've definately seen Tv that makes me hate tv...it gets so boring and neurotic.

Because of the hours I work I'm able to watch more T.V. than I probably should. But that being said My favourite Top 10 in no particular order are :

Family Guy
Get Smart
The Beverly Hillbilly's (Jethro kills me)
The Young Ones
Bottom
Filthy Rick and Catflap
Anything Monty Python
Fawlty Towers
Benny Hill
The 3 Stooges (only those with Shemp and Curly)

Most of it is British based comedy, which is what I grew up watching, but it is all basically Slapstick - The best form of comedy in My opinion

Unfortunaly t.v. isn't my thing I prefer movies because the haji's over here in Iraq own little movie shops with movies for like 2-3 bucks or a disc with like 5-8 movies for 5 bucks. at that price I can't pass that shit up. They got shit from t.v. so I'll watch 24, family guy, shit like that but as for the kid in my Ed, Edd, and Eddy.

No TV for me thanks, I don't even own one...well aside from the 50 inch LCD @ 100000:1 contrast ratio hooked up to my Modded 360, and my custom built dual 64bit AMD based tower set in my living room.

yea, not too much television time for me though.

I used to watch Metalocalypse and Friends. Also various movies on the movie Network, but I have no time for T.V. now and never even sit down for a second to watch. I literally have satellite hooked up, and haven't watched it for the last 6 months. I'm still getting around to getting rid of it.

Futurama and Family Guy are fucking hilarious. I've really gotten into watching Gordon Ramsay's "Hell's Kitchen" and "Kitchen Nightmares" on BBC. I fucking love that guy. Another sitcom I got into this past season was "Big Bang Theory" on regular cable. Totally geeky.

Here's a full episode uploaded to a Spanish site (the show has subtitles, although as fast as the characters talk, I've no idea how anyone could read that quickly, lol)

Big Bang Theory

I used to like having Animal Planet on in the background. For those of you who know me well enough, you know I'm an animal buff. ;\)

And why is that? I personally like it for the music. I'm not much one for Death Metal but I really like Dethklok. I really enjoy the musical performances, where they play and perform. The hair spins and timing on everything is so perfect and amusing to watch.

Maybe you just have to mellow out a bit?.. I could understand you not finding it funny, but to let a silly cartoon annoy you seems pointless to me.

I love dethklok.
I even saw them live in nyc a few weeks ago.
There really is a band behind the cartoon, and they were really good. I dont think they ever expected to go on tour for a cartoon, but they did.
They played in darkness while the toon played in the background on a big screen, then as the show went on, the musicians became more pronounced. They even gave a shout out to george carlin at the end saying comedy is hard.

What really bothers me is MTV put spongebob squarepants on at night. Fucking dumb idiots.....

I'm very much into Showtime's programming, so my favorite shows are (in no particular order) Weeds, Dexter, and Californication. I also really enjoy Adult Swim's lineup, as I truly believe one can never have too much abstract comedy or slapstick. I'm also quite the fan of NBC's Heroes, though the second season left quite a bit to be desired.

Oh, and Porn. Let's not forget Porn.

But.. I love to stay up all night, with the rest of my older friends to wait for Spongbob. :(..

Have you heard the rumour of Dethklok's music being produced by one guy.. Then two guys... Multiple times I've had to slap someone upside the head, and tell them to stop arguing, and look the shit up before they bother me.. -.-

They've definetly gone far, there are more vids of the cartoon playing songs on youtube then there are actual episodes.. Or rather, there were.. They apparently had to all be deleted because of copyright infringments? Apparently they were getting so popular, it became a problem.. Lol.. Now you can listen to the music, but without the awesome clips to go with it. You can even now, find doanloads of there music.

My personal favorite song is Mermaider, I love the stop and go lines.. "Axe Check.. Vengeance Check". Although, I'd have to say, with the video to go with it, Fan Song is pretty awesome with it's perfect timing hairspins and flashy clips, and play on the drum kit display.

"Briefcase Full Of Guts" tops them all in terms of sheer awesomeness. I haven't heard a Dethklok song I didn't like, with the sole exception of "Bloodrecuted", which I found to be very mainstream-ish and not particularly befitting the usual Dethklok style.

How on Earth do you get British TV all the way in the U.S?

Speaking of Gordon Ramsey, a friend of mine is practically obsessed with the guy. Then there's the Top Gear obsession of hers, of which I can get along with to a certain extent.

It's called satellite. I have a million channels from all over the world. 90% of which I never look at, yet am forced to pay for and have clutter up my viewing choices. I have maybe 10 channels devoted to religous programming. 20 devoted to foreign country progamming. It's insane and annoying.

Thing is, I didn't know if there was a region lockout or something. Seeing as I live in the UK and have never ventured out to the states, I wouldn't really know.

No need to be patronising about it. I was just curious is all.

Didn't mean to come off as patronizing. I just tried to point out that these days one is able to get several channels whether they want them or not. So if you have an interetst in Singapore's politics, there's a channel for that. If you want to watch hot chix sprawling on hot rods, there's a channel for that. If I want to tune into local news from Los Angeles or London, I can. However, to have this access, whether I want it or not, I have to pay a premium. If I want every movie channel they may add every Singapore channel to the package. So I get an additional 30 channels. 26 of which I will never look at.

It's the same here. Although I have cable, half of it I never watch but pay at the same time. Do I want something else, I need to take a package deal.

Still what bothers me most is that on too many channels, I can't watch for longer than 20 minutes before I am interupted by a commercial break, followed by a presentation of the next program, some programs for the following day and the great stuff that's gonna be on during the weekend before I can watch the next part. Like that series last as long as movies.

I prefer no interruptions, I'm a grown man, I can hold it up thank you. And even if, nowadays I can take a piss, a shit, shave and have a shower too during those breaks.

D.

If you subscribe to cable here, there's a BBC America channel that runs the most popular shows from the UK

Also, one of our local network channels carries the "Hell's Kitchen" show in case no one has premium cable. "Kitchen Nightmares" is only on BBC.

The music is fine, it's everything else that bothers me.

For example, the way they speak, the sound of their voices, for some reason it just bothers me; that pretty much ruins everything else for me.

Perhaps, I do need to mellow out a bit. What can I say? I can be an uptight young lady sometimes. I'm a control freak, so if things do not go as I planned (or hoped), I get annoyed.

Personally I hate satellite, But my room mate got it turned on which is better then nothing. But it just seems that when it rains heavy the signal is bad. Isn't that when most people watch the most TV?
The only thing i care about, As far as the tube is being able to watch 24. Other then that i really do not care.
24 just seems to be the only show that keeps me interested. Which is really fucked up, Because its a government type show. Maybe its Keifers great performance, The again the writing is very good. Like any show its got its flaws.
I'm rambling though.
Anyone else watch 24? If you have not watched it, The do. day 1 is my favorite, And not cause it was the first season but other reasons. I will elaborate if anyone asks,But do check the show out.

I have a DVR so commercials are a push of the button for me.

This being said, I watch:
Dexter (Online, and I am current.)
Futurama (Only the episodes I havent seen, which I can count on two hands)
Mythbusters (Again, only episodes I have not seen, and the current stuff.)
How its Made. (Great show, I recommend it.)
Tipe Warp (See How its Made)
Prototype This (Jury is still out on this one.)
Star Trek: TNG (Cause I grew up with it)
Star Trek: Voyager (Same as above.)
Metalocaylpse (Too funny not to watch.)
Ani-Monday on Sci-Fi
And Anime on G4 when I catch it.

That about sums it up.
Funny thing is, though, that I watch maybe half a dozen of the 200+ channels I have to pay for, its kind of ridiculous.

I've replied before, but recently a new channel has been added to Austrlaian Pay TV (or Foxtel) called Showcase, which has been awesome.

It only has ads between shows, so no annoying interruptions and has art house movies (Like little miss sunshine etc) and great series.

Two of the best ones I have seen lately have been

Breaking Bad - I LOVE this show. I can relate alot to the character (having secondary lung cancer myself) and wanting to leave a legacy of love, education and money to my children. I'm also working on a video series for them to watch (why do we still say video, when really it's DVD?) oops, I digress.

Breaking Bad's premise is that a chemistry teacher dying from lung cancer, becomes an Ice/Meth manufacturer to make some dough to leave his handicapped teenage son and pregnant again wife.

Because it's not all that easy to just become a cook overnight (well getting ingrediants and selling the product anyway, he has the chem part down pat), it changes him into more of a man. He goes from being a bit of a nerdy loser, to quite a ballsy guy.

Having nothing to lose does change your outlook on alot of things.

Another show on showcase that I really like is The Riches. Maybe it's the two lead characters being english, or just that it's funny I don't really know, but I enjoy the show alot.

Another quite good show (which was actually an Australian Production) they also played was Satisfaction, set in a Melbourne brothel (they are legal in Melbourne) about the girls and their famalies and lives. Not so much about the customers, more about the girls and from what I've seen of the industry (having worked in a similar one as a dancer) quite true to life.
Except all the girls are stunning and don't take drugs, which is really only a very small minority of girls in the industry from what I've seen. Although in saying that, it seems in Melbourne at least, alot of University Students have taken up this line of work to pay for their living whils they study law whatever.

Anyway, would love to hear from anyone else that have seen and enjoyed either of these three shows.

Zeph

I'm not sure what you are talking about. Obviously though the fact that one liners aren't the go here has completely slipped past your grasp of this forum.

I'm not sure what showcase is in the US, but in Aus it is how I described it. No reality shows about porn..sorry.

After doing a bit of research it seems your australian version of Showcase is a bit hobbled, only showing a margin of what our showcase channel plays here in Canada. Still it is the same network, and your reaction to my comment was completely uncalled for. Here is a list of reality shows about porn run by showtime/showcase.

Zeph was right to point out the fact that one-liner posts are not appreciated around here. Perhaps if you had done the research before your initial one-liner it would not have happened, and therefore you would have no reason to take offence at being guided in the right direction. Oh, and the veiled insult would have been unnecessary too. I am pretty sure Zeph was not intending any personal affront. Just take the advice and move on. That is all I will say on this matter. Thanks.

I don't really watch TV. Most shows I watch I usually wait for them on DVD. As of now I'm still catching up on The Sopranos, Dexter, My Name Is Earl, Sons Of Anarchy, stuff like that. I watch the History channel a lot though.

Ok so let me ask you this...
Do you own an entertainment system to watch movies on? Do you ever watch movies or any TV series either streaming on the internet or by downloading them onto your computer?

Also do you go out to the movies at all?

Peace

I go to the movies about once every couple of years. I think my last trip was when "The Grudge" came out. The vast majority of the "entertainment" I get is by being at someone's house to visit and they wont turn off their television. I have been known from time to time to acquire movies (mostly documentaries) that people suggest to me based on my interests. So I suppose my answer would be "documentaries and horror flicks mostly, but not the hack-and-slash type horror because it's almost always lame".

The last flick I watched was "The Strangers".

I'm a reader, though. Not really a movie-person. I have more books stacked on the headboard of my bed than a lot of people have read in their entire lives.

I like to watch youtube. where else can you use a crummy flipcam, film any insipid thing you want, then upload it and show it to a potential audience of millions of people?

I tend to prowl the Discovery, History, NGeo channels a lot. I watch heavyweight boxing when a good bout is on, and some UFC style matches. As for general TV and HBO/SHOWTIME shows, I enjoy House, True Blood, and Dexter. Other than that if the TV is on, it's usually just for background noise.

Cooking programs!
Especially "Master Chef goes large" at BBC Food.

Enjoy some sport as well, Biathlon is the favourite.

TV-series like Poirot (David Suchet) and Miss Marple (Joan Hickson) sets my piss on fire.
Dexter is OK, but the 2nd season is turning a bit to soapish for my taste.
The Wire is probably the best series Ive seen in years.

I've got my music on mostly, but when "Dexter" was on I was absolutely hooked ... whoever scripted that one rocks big time! "Supernatural" is ok- I normally have that on mute with music blaring. Jensen Ackles is great for the Perve value, hearing him or absorbing the plot of the show doesn't really come into it for me.
Now that these shows have taken a xmas haitus in Oz, I don't have the TV on at all. Good excuse to be a bookworm, or get the dogs out for a good run, instead of slowly shrivelling up in front of The Modern Day Satanic Altar...

I know this is a little off-topic, but...

I was talking to my sis the other day and she was telling me about a local contest of some sort (she lives a few states away) in which people had to go to the grocery store and bring to the checkout counter nothing but a cucumber and some KY. They were not allowed to make any excuses or other purchases. I thought this was hilarious and have since been trying to coax anyone I could into doing it so that I could film the clerk's reaction.

I have loads of little ideas like that. I guess I'm a youtube movie-making-whore and don't realize it.

HOT! I'd love to be a fly on the wall at your place Daevid777!
The mind boggles....

Are we veering precariously towards the Fetishes thread?

Love the cucumber and KY story too , now that's something I would fire up the old telly for...

Years ago, I went into a store with a woman I was dating in a strange mood. When we got to the counter, I had some condoms, some wine and cheese and a big tube of KY. We went to the check out counter and the checker looked like she was having a bad day.

I asked the woman if I could get a price check on the big tube of KY. Dutifully, she announced a price check over the store's speakers, turning a little red. The I asked her if they had AstroLube instead of KY, because it made anal so much easier and she sputtered, "I don't know, sir," turning redder still. As he was finishing ringing up my purchases, I asked her if she was alone for the evening. She gave me an emphatic, "NO!!: So I asked her if her husband was available and she finally cracked up, laughing, and said, "I know!! I'm on Candid Camera!!!"

About that time I noticed that my lady friend had left the store and was standing next to the car.

I'd rather spend my time in the woods hunting deer with my Bess (Brown Bess).

Television is overrated to me, just like the Internet, reality occurs when you are able to set foot on the ground and be one with the animals, hearing every sound, smelling every smell etc.. I'd say if you want to play a character on the T.V./Internet, be a damn good one because no-one really cares about a sideshow, myself included.

Very wise words! I know what you are talking about. Well.. at least till the "deer hunting" part. Anyway, indeed I'm always feeling better when doing a good walk in the wild nature.

I watch my male white toy poodle make his best attempt to "hump" my male black cat...

To paraphrase George Carlin... it's not only an interracial thing, or an interspecies thing, it's also a homosexual act...

My dogs gay, and he likes black guys... good for him.

TV?

Used to be "Star Trek" - anything but "Deep Space Nine" - fuck that shit!

"Law and Order" - any of them, take your pic, but Stabler is "hot"... so I'm told... okay, he's hot, my dog and I agree.

Food Network shit - Iron Chef - the "real" Iron Chef... with Foie Gras and live eels... they don't fuck around. And they would never use "canned goods" as "ingredients"... bastard Americans... "Good Eats" - 'cause I like the science behind the food...

Anthony Bourdain... if only for the episode when he ate an "Iguana Tamale"...

"Desperate Housewives" - don't judge...

"Burn Notice" - lost touch with it for a while... but I always like Bruce Campbell...

"Real Time with Bill Mahr" - HBO

"Spongebob Squarepants" - I'm a father... that's my excuse... if I still smoked weed... it would be even better...

Can I say some "Hail Mary's" or something now... 'cause I feel like I just left a confessional...

I'm so ashamed...

Dave, you'll be alright as long as you don't watch "Dora the Explorer" or "Blue's Clues"...your kids are old enough to be past that crap, right? Right?

Spongebob is the best...reminds me a lot of Ren & Stimpy with the wacked out animation and bizarre plots.

Yeah, Dora too, and Blue's Clues... but only with Steve, when Joe's on I race to change the fucking channel...

Now there's this new shit... Dora formula to the extreme - Called "Ni Hao Kai Lan" - it's like Chinese Dora...

Why am I writing this!

So very ashamed...

I don't watch much television--I prefer to read--but I do have a couple favorites:

  • Arrested Development
  • Burn Notice
  • Law and Order: Criminal Intenet
  • The Office
  • The Universe
  • Three's Company (John Ritter was an amazing physical comedian)

Currently, "The Family Guy" is my favorite. I laugh my ass off and have a good time while I'm watching it, then I feel dirty after it's all over. Like relationships...

"Sponge Bob" actually has a lot of humor that only adults and older kids would get. It's not your father's Saturday morning cartoon.

Back in the day, I lived upstairs from a former nun...why that is funny to me is beyond me, but she used to tape "her shows" during the day and after she watched them, she'd send the tape upstairs to us. For a while I was hooked on ER, but Law and Order is the only show that seems to have stood the test of time. I have probably seen every episode of every L&O they've made. I consider that quite an accomplishment for someone who hasn't owned a television in a jillion years.

I once invited the former nun over to watch "Dogma" with me. Then I hooked her up with the nascar loving single dude next door. I'm now "Aunt Toni".

I don't really watch much tv nowadays. I'm a big fan of nature shows and real physical sports like Boxing and MMA, besides that I don't really find much that interesting as see a lot of television as nauseating.

I also watch C-SPAN once in a blue moon if someone interesting is on just because I like hearing people discuss idea.s

I only watch TV shows on DVD. But I spend a lot of time doing that. I love TV when it's my kind of show.

These are favorite shows of mine in no particular order, except that the first is my very favorite show of all time, and the second gets my vote for the most ambitious:

1. Bones
2. Battlestar Galactica (the remake)
3. Dollhouse
4. Six Feet Under
5. True Blood
6. Tru Calling
7. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
8. Angel
9. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
10. Rome
11. Stargate: SG-1
12. Xena
13. Carnivale

And yes, I'm hokey - or maybe OCD? - enough that if I can't list six things, then I list thirteen.

Anything poker related. High Stakes Poker, WPT, Poker Stars Invitational, WSOP, Learn From the Pros, and Poker After Dark.

I also love poker but most of it screened in Australia is on digital or pay TV, and I have neither.

I love the clips I've seen of High Stakes Poker. As well as the big stacks of chips going back and forth there are guys throwing huge wads of cash on the table! Very cool.

My all-time top ten would go something like this. It's in no particular order (except for the first one.) I've decided to keep the music-related shows seperate. I may get to them later.

1. Monty Python's Flying Circus
2. Get Smart
3. X-files (First 3 seasons- awesome. 4th season- very good. 8th and 9th season- the non-conspiracy episodes were good. 5th, 6th and 7th seasons- execrable.)
4. Odysseus: The Greatest Hero Of Them All (Tony Robbins re-tells the great stories from The Iliad and The Odyssey. This show was one of the things that fuelled my childhood love of mythology. I still adore it!)
5. Astro Boy (thank bloody goodness I didn't forget this!)
6. Neon Genesis Evangelion (the first anime series I fell in love with when I could understand the culture behind anime.)
7. Cowboy Bebop (my favourite anime series)
8. Buffy The Vampire Slayer
9. Angel (I know it was SUPPOSED to be silly, but it got too much so after a while.)
10. WWF Superstars ( I watched it in the late 90s, when hardcore elements began to be introduced. I don't like what the WWE offers today much at all- too much fucking furniture.)

I watch TV way too much. My favorites are:
Monty Python
Family Guy
X-Files
Monk
Bones
House
Cold Case
The Simpsons
American Dad
The Cleveland Show
The Honeymooners
Beverly Hillbilies
Get Smart
MASH
Hogan's Heroes
Fresh Prince of Bel Air

I usually don't go a month without watching either of those at least once, but lately I've been favoring the first six.
I used to watch Wheel of Fortune every day hoping that my number would appear.

The History Channel
The Military Channel
True Blood
Flight Of The Conchords
Eastbound & Down
Battlestar Galactica (the revised version but the original was good too)

Anything about the universe. And I watch comedy central almost religiously. Love the skewering they do on the news. And I enjoy watching the oil come into the gulf. But mostly I am online writing something.

You do?

And why is that? I have a feeling that this comment, like many of your others, is a cheap ploy to elicit a response, but I'll play this time. What do you enjoy about "watching the oil come into the gulf" and why?

I think Lost was one of the best series ever done. I really like JJ Abrams and I think the way he weaves stories together is masterful.

I don't know if you ever watch TED TV, but the talk he gave there sort of re-framed how I looked at Lost (The Mystery Box).

You can watch it HERE if you're interested.

To the thread in general:
I tend not to watch tv on a regular basis. I really love Discovery ID though and find that when I do have a tv turned on it's mostly on that channel. Of the shows on ID, I like Main Street Mysteries, Unusual Suspects, Solved, Most Evil, etc.

They have a new one now called LA - City of Demons (James Ellroy) that I haven't yet had a chance to watch.

I like several old tv shows as well that I revisit on DVD from time to time. I loved Columbo, Kung-Fu, Beretta, Firefly and a few others.

I normally don't care much for TV, but both Spartacus and The Walking Dead have caught my eye. I've only seen each one once or twice, and I can't imagine I will be going out of my way to be in front of the idiot box when they come on, but if I find myself on my couch and happen to click by I will probably stop and watch.

Millenium - Best TV series ever.

I used to watch a lot of TV, now I don't have the time, I just use my TV to watch movies when I have the time but I used to watch:

The Big Bang Theory
CSI
The Twilight Zone (Buy it on DVD!)
The Roadrunner

I also like anime a bit, things like Chobits, Witch Hunter Robin and Elfen Lied.

And that's it.

best.

I have to tell you, I won't go out of my way to find a new show on TV but this one caught my eye this winter and I've been hooked. The Blood and Sand series drew me in completely. Watching Batiatus' desires, drive and devotion to grow his empire play out gives the feeling of what the Roman ruled times were like. You can't help but root for a man so purely driven. And yet you hold hope for someone to get his revenge as well on the very character you are rooting for. It's bitter sweet and from what I've read of that time frame of the Roman Empires, this is a very close depiction of that history.

As much as I liked the first series, the second is a prequel, Gods of the Arena, and seems to hold the same interest. It shows how Batiatus got to where he was in the first series, as well as his gladiators. I didn't know if I'd like it as much, but it's definitely kept my interest so far.

My oldest saw me watching one of the Blood and Sand series one night and ended up sitting and watching it with me. He's hooked as well. It's kind of funny to watch his face from time to time because the show really does depict the Roman times. Slaves are kept topless, male and female alike, along with them being completely at the mercy of their masters, no matter what. Sex is not taboo in any way, shape or form, so there are people doing what they wish, wherever they wish, and to whomever they wish. Hell, the story line is completely desire driven, politically, monetarily, sexually, and more. He'll get a look of "What the fuck?!" on his face and then ask me if Roman times really were like that. I've told him, from everything I've read, that's what it was like, to a "T". Advancement in the society was had through any means necessary. It's been interesting to watch, that's for sure.

I haven't had much of a chance to check out The Walking Dead but think I might see where the new series Camelot on Starz goes. It too looks like it could get fairly interesting.

**Didn't mean to give an actual review of the show, but it really is that good. ;\)

I used to watch Steve Irwin but then he died. Now I don't bother with T.V. For years. I watch lots of nature programs online or some science documentaries about the holographic universe, chaos theory, cosmology etc.

Films would be Bruce Lee, black comedy, Samurai movies, and non pretentious psychological movies like Silence of the Lambs 1, the Shining, Let the Right One In, Old Boy, Natural Born Killers, and also Braveheart. I don't really know any others because I haven't looked for any T.V. or films since I went into reclusive hermit mode with my studies and have gone quite mad to some. Maybe I'll watch a comedy.

You must do a lot of cocaine then.

Metalocalypse is a great show. Deadliest Warrior and Fight Science are also great shows. Family Guy, futurama and American Dad, other then those few, I don't watch much TV.

Recently I got into a series called Misfits on Hulu. I also follow Fringe and have watched The Booth at the End to my enjoyment.

I like shows that surprise me and do not follow the conclusion I figure out early on.

I purchased two movies as well that caught me by being different. The first is Troll Hunter and well it is about hunting trolls, the second is The Perfect Host. Both were interesting movies in their own rights.

I can't say I watch TV anymore, I found I wasn't learning or doing as much as I could watching TV as opposed to other activities, but there are a few good shows I've kept up with online.

Comedy Central Presents, the acts by Demetri Martin, Top Shot, Fight Science, and Futurama.

A few good movies I've seen are the Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman movie series and the Boondock Saints

One interesting show that I think got overlooked was Solitary, it was a great show to explore and research how people react and change under different environments and stimuli.

General Reply:

This is a sort of off the cuff observation but I've found, of late, that television programming (mostly cable) has vastly improved while the drivel that comes out of Hollywood is in a definite state of decline. Most full length films that I've watched and liked within the past few years have been produced independently and outside of the Hollywood machine.

I generally don't watch anything in its current season because I never remember to watch when it airs and I inevitably miss something. I do watch TV shows on Netflix on occasion and have recently discovered the following two shows:

1). Mad Men: Everyone has known what it is for a few years, it seems, except me. Just recently discovered it, fell in love with it. It's high quality, period perfect (except for a few small things) and I have an innate love for old school advertising. Post graduation I actually interviewed and landed a job at Ogilvy & Mather but ultimately turned it down over money (had a kid on the way and couldn't take a pay cut that drastic). At least know I was good enough to at least start working in that industry!

2). Thriller: Old Boris Karloff series similar to Hitchcock presents except it's a tad darker and tends to run to true crime etc. It's sort of short story Noir, with some great content. Love it!
