It appears that there are some people in the dark when it comes to which bands are truly Satanic in belief and which simply sing about Satan. It was mentioned in one of the posts that black metal bands from Norway are a good place to start, and there couldn't be a truer answer. Some bands to check out...
Gorgoroth
Dark Funeral
Belphegor
Emperor
Necrophobic
Slayer

There are sooooo many others it is ridiculous. The European metal bands are much more extreme than American bands in their content and often with the music itself. One of the members of Gorgoroth has been convicted of burning down Xtian churches in Norway, and this is (or was years back) a common occurrence in that country.
Some of the lyrics are quite outright in their satanic reveling while others are more subtle in their musings.

Here's an oddity from 1970. Very different, very controversial, very innovative at the time, as you'll see if you look up Haack on the web. Personally I rather liked EL, though I don't think Anton LaVey did; I recall him saying caustically that it struck him as Jesus Christ Superstar with horns. Oh, well.

Here and here are a couple of tracks from it. Definitely not the Devil's music if you only visualize him as scary and grouchy all the time ...

Cradle of Filth are self proclaimed members of the CoS. Their album "God speed on the Devils thunder" is orchistrated more than the last, but still great. I read somewhere that all the members are Priests within the CoS, except for the key boardist.

Here's another oddity from "the old days", in this case 1971. A very disturbing phonograph album called Black Mass by Lucifer appeared on the shelves. Electronic music which was somehow so creepy that aficionados who played all manner of spooky music routinely were frequently very hesitant, even afraid to play this one.

The artist in question was Mort Garson, and several of his other works are commercially available today, but for some strange reason BM remains OOP, with extreme prices asked for existing copies.

However I have found a webpage from which the entire album may be downloaded as a .zip-file which opens into MP3 files of all of the tracks. [During the download one has to listen to a commercial; just turn down the volume.]

Here's the title track on YouTube, where you can also sample a few other tracks from the album, such as "Solomon's Ring". Enjoy!

Thanks for turning me on to BLACK MASS by Lucifer. I'll have to add that to my music collection and maybe even play parts of it sometime on Dark Ryde.

I checked my list of things I have in storage and found that I have THE ELECTRIC LUCIFER, although I don't ever remember owning it.

One other ritual type album that was out there at that time that I also have is WITCHCRAFT by Coven (they did One Tin Soldier... a silly antiwar pop song), which features a "Black Mass" and songs like THE WHITE WITCH OF ROSE HALL, and DIGNITARIES OF HELL.

Haack also did a followup EL2, which was not released at the time ... only after his death in 1988. Just as frisky & fun; here's "Mean Old Devil" from it, and you get to see Haack visiting with, of all people, Mr. Rogers. [Wouldn't that have caused a scandal back in the "Satanic Panic" '80s?]

Apparently now OOP, although copies are still available. I never picked it up, probably just because the cover art looked too Raymond Buckland, but the Amazon reviews seem quite positive in a Jefferson Airplane way.

Speaking of which: I don't think that Anton ever got a memorial service from Densley & Co.; but if it had been up to me, I'd have held it atop Land's End, scattered his ashes over the cliff & into the waves, and played this.

There was much that I understood about Anton, but his enduring passion for Tiny Tim was not part of it.

Some parts of the '60s it's perhaps merciful that this younger generation missed ...

I think it boiled down to his personality and something that just clicked between them. LaVey first met him on a TV show (memory fails on which one) and Tiny Tim had treated him with genteel respect. They talked and apparently enjoyed a lot of the same things and obscurities... they both enjoyed Rudy Vallee... dunno why. But whenever Dr. LaVey would talk about Tiny Tim, he always recalled him as a "sweet man." I didn't quite get it either.

I would have to recommend you check out Acheron, those guys lay it all out. There music is what i would call 'unholy gospel'. I've been able to get all their albums and i've never regreted. There is also Judas Priest who are also great.

Apart from the classic "Black Sabbath" , I also like very much "The Foetus of a New Day Kicking" , by Cradle of Filth. I would also not neglect mentioning "Venom". Personally I like "Buried Alive", but I also like very much "In League with Satan", "Welcome to Hell" and "One Thousand Days in Sodom".

Most of the material from these three bands is going to be Satanically themed:

Electric Hellfire Club
Tiamat
Samael

As for Tiamat, I will be the first to admit that their earlier work (early 90's) was indeed the "RAAWWWWWR!!!! HAIL SATAN!!!! I LOVE THE DEVIL!!!!!" loud and angry junk. But they underwent a pleasant transformation in the late 90's when Johan Edlund learned to sing instead of howling. And thank goodness he did! He has a deep, rich baritone voice, much like the late Peter Steele. It would have been pitifully wasted growling throughout his music. The lyrics also got a bit more refined as the singing did. \:\)

Note that, in addition to concrete "Satanic" references, there will also be references to Thelema and Sumerian mythology in Tiamat.

Sleepytime Gorilla Museum's Hymn to the Morning Star is, in my humble opinion, one of the greatest recordings to ever meet my ears. In that creepy plucked violin and fretless bass-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eFd91CXfc0

Not really holding any message or meaning but more embracing the theme for the drama of a hymn to Lucifer. The only time SGM ever really dealt with this subject matter. This particular album was all about various anti-human beliefs. The band is based on a fictional anti humanist mathematician named John Cage and a fictional museum (they speak as if this is all historical fact) that was burned down on the day of its opening.

Madonna - The Beast Within

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rX73a4HzFPU

Blessed is he who reads aloud the words of the prophecy
And blessed are those who hear
And who keep what is written therein
For the time is near

[from Revelation 1:7]
He is coming with the clouds
And every eye will see him
Everyone who pierced him
And all the tribes of the earth will wail on account of him

[from Revelation 2:1-4]
Those of you who have not learned what some call the deep things of Satan
I know your works, I know your toil, and your patient endurance
And how you cannot hear evil men
But have tested those who call themselves apostles, but are not
And found them to be false
I know that you are enduring patiently and bearing out for my namesake
And you have not grown weary
But I have this against you
That you have abandoned the love you had

[from Revelation 2:9-10]
I know your tribulation and your poverty
And the slander of those who say that they are Jews, but they are not
They are a synagogue of Satan
Do not fear what you are about to suffer
Behold the devil is about to throw you into prison

Wanting, needing, waiting for you to justify my love
Hoping, praying for you to justify my love

[from Revelation 13:1-10]
And I saw a beast rising out of the sea with ten horns and seven heads
And a blasphemous name upon its head
And the beast that I saw was like a leopard
Its feet were like a bear's
And its mouth was like a lion's mouth
And to it the dragon gave his power, and his throne, and great authority
One of his heads had a mortal wound
But it seemed to have a mortal wound that was healed
And the whole earth followed the beast with wonder

Men worshipped the dragon for he had given his authority to the beast
And they worshipped the beast saying
"Who is like the beast and who can fight against the beast?"
And the beast was given a mouth uttering haughty and blasphemous words
And it was allowed to exercise authority for forty-two months
It opened its mouth to utter blasphemous words against God

It was allowed to make war on the saints and to conquer
And authority was given it over every tribe
And a people and tongue and nation
And all who dwell on earth could worship it in vain
If anyone has an ear let him hear
If anyone is to be taken captive, into captivity he will go
If anyone who slays with the sword, with the sword

Wanting, needing, waiting for you to justify my love
Hoping

[from Revelation 21:1-8]
Then, I saw a new heaven and a new earth
And I heard a great voice from the throne saying:
"Behold the dwelling of God is with men
He will dwell with them, and they shall be his people
And God himself will be with them
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes
And death shall be no more
Neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore
For these things will have passed away

To the thirsty I will give water without price
From the fountain of the water of life
He who conquers shall have this heritage
And I will be his God and he shall be my son

But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the polluted
As for the murderers, fornicators, sorcerers, idolators, and all liars
Their lot shall be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone."

[from Revelation 22:10-13]
And he said to me, he said to me:
"Do not seal up the words of the prophecy, for the time is near
Let the evildoers still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy
And the righteous still do right, and the holy still be holy
Behold, I am coming soon
I am the alpha and the omega
The first and the last
The beginning and the end."

Amen

What are you gonna do?
