Well no of course not, but they have sentimental value obviously. Its like saying after you read the Satanic Bible from a library I dont need to own one CoS i understand the points made.

And they give someone a backup resource in making a decision. Sometimes common sense can be muddled up in ones mind and havng them set down in 11 rules makes it all the more easier.
Its really like a dissection and order of common sense if you put it that way.

But still, where did the rules come from? they cant simply 'appear' on the internet, they would needed to have existed outside it first, so I ask again, where did they come from?

That would be on any number of websites such as:-

http://www.churchofsatan.com/Pages/Eleven.html
http://altreligion.about.com/od/satanismlaveyan/a/11satanic_rules.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaVeyan_Satanism

They where published as a small document and circulated by Anton LaVey two years before the Satanic Bible was published and are referenced in almost every Satanic text published since they where circulated.

Well it's not like LaVey wrote a giant library of books. I don't think buying every book he ever wrote would break many of us.

Otherwise this quest for such an answer is pretty pointless if you are just trying to figure out which book to buy.

(from wiki)

* The Satanic Bible (Avon, 1969, ISBN 0-380-01539-0)
* The Compleat Witch, or, What to do When Virtue Fails (Dodd, Mead, 1971, ISBN 0-396-06266-0); republished as The Satanic Witch (Feral House, 1989, ISBN 0-922915-00-8); re-released with an introduction by Peggy Nadramia, and an afterword by Blanche Barton (2003, ISBN 0-922915-84-9).
* The Satanic Rituals (Avon, 1972, ISBN 0-380-01392-4)
* The Devil's Notebook (Feral House, 1992, ISBN 0-922915-11-3)
* Satan Speaks!, introduction by Blanche Barton, foreword by Marilyn Manson (Feral House, 1998, ISBN 0-922915-66-0)

Out of those 5 books 2 can be found in the media room. A hunt can find the satanic witch on another forum as well. So therefore you could in theory read three of five books to see for yourself where it was written. This would knock it down to two physical books you would have to buy to answer your own question.

But who is to say it was published in any book at all? Would it be so unfathomable to think it might just be something written for an old church newsletter?

I must ask do you question the validity of this being an authentic writing by LaVey?

Thanks a heap that answered my question. So basically printing them off the internet would be more or less the same as the original document.
Thank you for satisfying my curiosity that was it.

While I hate to suggest this, I believe Wikipedia has it all. It was fairly accurate so I gave it to my tattoo artist for some reference.
