I have been unable to get into chat for about a day now. The window says "Initialization ..." and then freezes.

Tried switching browsers, no cigar.

I believe others may have had this problem too.

The problem should be fixed now. (I hope this doesn't count as a one-liner, and get me in trouble with the mods) ;\)

Well Rick, since you're admin....you get to pick which device you get spanked with ;\)

I hope my almost-one-liner doesn't get me in trouble with myself (sorry, couldn't resist!).

lol, nice Nem.

On a side note, it appears that chat isn't back up yet. I'm hoping this changes within the hour. I'm monitoring the situation and in contact with the flash server provider.

What's your screen resolution? You can try increasing it, the minimum required for the chat is 600 pixels high, larger is recommended.

Also, depending on your browser, you can try maximizing the chat window and pressing F11 for fullscreen mode.

If that doesn't work, close the chat window and try starting chat from here, and try that again.

Update: I just discovered that using the zoom feature in Firefox (and possibly other browsers) enlarges the chat window. It doesn't enlarge the text, it fits more in the larger window (albeit with a fixed aspect ratio, so you can't stretch it wider). Thus if too much zoom is used, the full chat window won't fit on the screen.

If you can't find where to enter text in the chat, try turning off zoom (from another browser window), and it just may work then.

I am having a problem getting into chat. I am positive it is something to do with my computer and not the chat itself. Whenver I try to go into chat I make it all the way to where it says "Authentication" then one of those stupid boxes that says "Internet Explorer has stopped working". It tells me that it is looking for a solution but all it ever tells me is that a program has caused the program to stop working correctl. After the the chat starts loading again and the process repeats itself. Just wondering if anyone can help me out. I have already tried re-downloading Java but that doesn't seem to help.

I just tried getting into chat and had no problem running Safari. This sounds a lot like a problem I had with chat several weeks ago. You might want to email Xear on it.

I would message him but I am pretty sure the problem is not with the chat itself since no one else is having any problems getting in. Checking around on the web now for an information that might be of hel to me.

Hmmm it seems I have made the problem worse. I reset IE and tried to re-download/install flash player and now when it says "Authentication" the chat window closes. Damnit - why oh why did I have to kill my other computer lol

Just checked to see, and it's working fine. (3:13am NY Time).
I was in there around noon yesterday, and was ok at that time as well.

Yep - this and all of the above! Both IE and Firefox crash on my PC after the "authentication" message for Chat and then if I restart the whole cycle just happens again. I know it's not my computer.

I use IE and it works just dandy for me. Plus I run a shitload of other stuff in the background. Is there a Java update you are missing? Cleaned out the cache and other junk lately? Was your computer running an update or scan at the time. I was in there last night, and I had like 7 windows opened.

I tried redownload java and flash player several times and it doesnt do anything. Clearing cookies doesn't help and using a different browser is equally useless.

This is starting to sound like a malware/virus related issue.

I doubt it. Thing is regularly scanned and has never come up with anything. Before I bought it from my mom she only used it for gaming. If any computer were going to have viruses on it, it would have been my old one but chat worked fine on that one.

Regularly scanned and comes up with nothing? That's actually a bad sign, when it comes to malware/addware/spyware. You are scanning for these and not just viruses right?

Viruses are actually way less common. Any amount of time online will cause your browsers to pick up malicious tracking cookies at the very least.

If you haven't already, get Lavasoft ad-aware and run it \:\)

Well, I did the Lavasoft thing. The scan took two hours but it wasn't much help. Oh well, I guess I should just admit defeat. Maybe the problem will somehow fix itself if I ignore it.

Here is an earlier thread that might help with the chat issues:

http://www.the600club.com/topic2661-1.html

something about a windows update security feature disabling java until you reenable it.

weird mess.

It must be a firewall or setting issue. I can play poker, chat, watch porn, and listen to music all at the same time. I swear that scrambles your head. Not bragging, just saying I think something on your end needs to be updated or a setting changed.

Yeah... I got a feeling it's internal with those people having problems. The chat seems to be working normally here and has since people have reported the problem.

I would think that if you added anything new to your computer or changed any settings, that would be a prime source to consider.

That's odd, I was disconnected from chat 2 and a half hours ago when I took my laptop out of wireless range, not bothering to sign out. I just went online now and discovered I was listed as being in the chatroom under 60 seconds ago.

Despite this, I was able to load chat just now, without the message I get if I'm already logged in.
The server seemed to not only list me as being in chat when I wasn't, it updated my status every 60 seconds. Weird bug.

You know, I've being trying to use Chat on here for months to no avail. As soon as all the initializing and so on is completed, Chat closes down, my computer goes back to desktop and I get a message saying Firefox had to close. This happens with IE, too so I'm guessing it's not a browser problem. Any ideas, folks?

I must have spent a good half hour trying to get into chat. I cursed the moon, the stars and the fucking mud on the ground. All to no avail.

After lamenting my being, it occurred to me that my AVG antivirus might be running a scan...what do you know, issue solved.

Mr Felix, I’m not saying that this is your issue; after all, you appear to have a brain (unlike myself). But, another thought did enter my mind...have you enabled third party cookies? Also, what are you fire wall settings? Accessing the chat room could be contrived of as invasive by some security systems.
Any questions, feel free to PM, we will solve this fucker!

It seems that this flash thing won't work properly here. Is there any possibility to use any external IRC client to chat?

Tinychat link doesn't seem to be working here.
When trying to load the page I always get an automatic "connection failed"-error. Clearing history and other tricks doesn't seem to have worked.

Any suggestions? Or is there another reason?

You wernt able to connect to the chat room, please check you connection and try again.

Browser wise, I have tried google chrome, mozilla firefox, and internet explorer. I have also done all the normal troubleshooting stuff like clearing my cookies, updating flash, resetting my internet connection etc. I have tried to connecting via a hard-line to the web, as well as through a wireless hot spot. I have also tried to connect using two different pc's. I am fairly certain that the error is not being caused on my end.
