NoFX - "Blasphemy (The Victimless Crime)

Lyrics:

I'll throw a pie in the face of piety
I'll torch a torah right off a bridge
I am a reverend of irreverence
I'm a shill for any sacrilege
I understand that faith in a deity
Helps the masses who are having hard times
But blasphemy like prostitution
Are clearly victimless crimes

Blasphemy, blasphe-you, Jesus Christ the blackest Jew
Blasphe-you, blasphemy, poisonous pedagogy

I'm an unbeliever, I'm a heretic
I'm gonna projectile puke off a pew
I'm a trouble making immature imp
I'm gonna turn your other cheek for you
I understand we all need something to believe in
I believe I'll never be given wings and
I'm sorry if it's up there cuz I didn't think
A song was gonna hurt its feelings

Blasphemy, speaking deadpan
Apparently this god has got a master plan
Now they call foul, pure heresy
But ya gotta wonder, does he have a plan B'

Horus similar to Mithra, Attis analogous to Krishna
Jesus, different name same story
All based on ancient Egyptian allegory

My position hasn't been occulted
It can never be more overstated
My intelligence has been insulted
So my tongue lashes out in defense
Anything that is your holy or sacred
I'm gonna desecrate and use in jest
But you'll never hear a crack about Mohammed
Cuz I don't wanna get shot in the chest

Blasphemy, isn't this fun
Rob a rabbi, bugger a nun
Blasphemy, want some more'
Mother Mary, the virgin whore

Okay, NoFX get a little praise from me for writing this song. Just about says it all about how I talk about religion in general.

Shame it didn't rip into absolutely every religion and mainly stuck with Christianity.

EDIT: I forgot to mention how amused I was at the dig against Islam. Brilliant stuff. \:D

Personally, I found it childish both lyrically and musically. But hey, I'm a snob.

I agree, it never really 'ripped' into 'anything', the statements were bland and we all heard them before.

Of course if I produced that song it would be great! LOL!!!

Well, I have never heard any childeren ever use the term pedagogy or even irreverence. Nor can I think of any children who can play with such talent. Yes, there is talent there. Being a punk rock band doesn't automatically mean you can't play. They must be doing something right since they have been around for 20+ years.

If you think you can do better I will gladly give it a listen.

I have never heard of The Dictators before but I liked what I heard. The lead guitar player played a nice little solo. I'm not sure if this somehow relates or if you were just sharing but it was a good song either way.

Another wonderful little song from NoFX of their latest release "Coaster". They seem to be focusing more and more of their satircal aim at religion, and that makes me happy.

"Best God In Show" Lyrics:

I have no consideration
Zero mutual respect
For billions who suffer from rational thought neglect
I donít wanna waste a sentence
I donít want a conversation
Thatís gonna end in disdain disbelief and aggravation

And I find itís getting harder to hang out
With grown adults who actually believe
In Santa Clause and Noahís Ark, and Their god is the best
My distaste has turned into detest

Who would read a 2000-year-old medical journal?
Techniques for blood-letting
Advice on trichinosis
Would you navigate the globe
With a map of a flat Earth?
Without DNA testing would you believe virgin birth?

And I find itís getting painful to put up
With grown adults who actually believe
In unicorns and creation and god always takes their side
Thatís when my innocent jabbing turns snide

Thank god for the Grammy
Thank god for the touchdown
Thank god for blowing up the enemyís sacred ground
So how am I supposed to take anything you say seriously
When you swap free will for faith, hope and pre-destiny?

And itís getting agonizing to hang out
With grown adults who actually believe
Mythology and history trump physics and science
My aversion has turned to aberrance

Another classic tune. NoFX are defiantly one of the bands that make me actually sit up and listen. Cheers.

I love it!

Unique style of music and awesome imagery. I've always liked the slutty nun look. And the upside down crosses made out of electric tape on the nipples was great too. Come to think of it, there isn't anything in this video I didn't like. A new favorite for sure.

If we are talking about blasphemy...
Maybe not really blasphemy, but hey: it quite sums up the general feeling about x-mass most have.

This song isn't blasphemous but it does have some good lyrics.

Bloodhound Gang "Take The Long Way Home"

Did you ever read Voltaire's "Candide"?
He says live life at Benny Hill freak out speed
Not a quote of what he wrote but a paraphrase
Make it up as you go Keyser Soze
Highlights yes but don't underline 'em
Just live for N.O.W. like Gloria Steinem
Life is like Marion Barry
It's not all that it's cracked up to be
Like Fred Sanford when the big one comes
Find the meaning of life is there is none
It's twenty-four hours when you call it a day
Be Frank and say "I Did It My Way"
Don't give a flying nun no don't give a Gidget
Just have more fun than a well-oiled midget
If life were picture perfect you could frame it
But the world is a diaper so let someone else change it

Life is an aimless drive that ya take alone
Might as well enjoy the ride, take the long way home

All born equal unless you're Canadian
Then halfway through decay like Uranium
You define what's death-defying
Get the most out of life or at the least die trying
Are you Evil Knievel jumping a train?
Or running with scissors like Frasier Crane?
Have really good times doing really bad things
'Cause the show ain't over 'til the fat lady sings
Like Elton John with his candle in the wind
It's hard to blow out a flame as big as him
But we've all got to Wang Chung with the Grim Reaper
Whether you're Einstein whether you're Beaker
Death is certain so it's definitely worth flirtin'
Don't expect a bright light no just curtains
Life is like a penis most people don't know it
But most people suck so they usually blow it

Life is an aimless drive that ya take alone
Might as well enjoy the ride take the long way home

Life is an aimless drive that ya take alone
Might as well enjoy the ride take the long way home
