It seems The Anglican Centre in Rome have overlooked a minor issue in the naming of a fundraising campaign (click here)...

In light of this, I took it upon myself to inform 'The Very Reverend' David Richardson of this clash. I enclose my email to him below:

 Quote:
Dear Very Reverend David Richardson,

I recently discovered that a fundraising programme at the Anglican Centre in Rome is called "The 600 Club".

I would like to inform you that "The 600 Club" is also the name of a professed Satanist discussion board running since the late 1990s, at www.the600club.com, which has an affiliation with the "First Satanic Church" run from San Francisco, USA. Those searching for "The 600 Club" in Google are likely to find the Satanist site first, with your site below it.

As such, and given the nature of your organisation, this may lead to confusion and possible offense. I am wondering if you considered an alternative name for your fundraising effort, at least online?

Kind regards,

Meq

P.S. No, I didn't put Meq.

So now I'm amusing myself by imagining a big welcome banner on our site's front page: "The 600 Club welcomes the Anglican Centre to our Satanic forum dedicated to Hell and its spawn. Click here to make a donation." \:\)

LMAO. Can you say OOPS!?!?!? Wow, That's not even a MINOR oversight... I am sure if they don't change the name in a timely manner xear can threaten them and make them change their name. That would be rather amusing.

I think Meq took the correct action. It will save confusion all around. It was polite and professional.

As the saying goes, there is no such thing as bad publicity. Of course, we should brace for a wave of nitwits coming from both sides.

Meq, let us know if you get a reply.

Careful Room, he may find his way to this very thread...

Nothing from the fine priest yet. I suspect he has other priorities - like screaming at his fundraising crew for making the mother of all faux pas... not to mention bringing the name of Satan upon their holy mission.

People need to be sacked, heads need to roll. ;\)

These seems to happen a lot. Even with big companies.

A simple google search would have gone a long way. Hell, even Apple failed to google that 'iPad' was a Mad TV skit several years ago.

I'd just like to say in defense of the Anglican Church in Rome (having worked for them many, many decades ago - yeah, nail me up now) that they are not so much "fucking child-shagging cunts" as mealy-mouthed, pseudo-intellectual, closeted homosexual, lying, misogynistic hypocrital bastards.
Aaaaaaaah, that's better!
Actually, I hope the two sites do get mixed up and clerics start writing to us on burning issues of the day, like how best to celebrate Harvest Festival and so on. \:\)

To be honest I dont think they would give a damn if a small Satanist internet forum have the same name. They sure wont change it. If so they take drastic action for something that really wont change a whole lot.

Just found the following in my spam folder (sans 'Meq'):

I can't say I've ever heard of a 'Very Reverend' before. After some searching I was actually struck by the insane depth of titles and ranks these guys bestow upon each other. They put the military to shame in that regard.

Room 101:
I hereby bestow upon you the title of Right Villainous Vicar to the Left Hand of Satan.

Yep, Very Reverend is used for a bishop or one with higher authority than a plain Reverend in the Anglican Communion. He addressed as "Your Grace" if you're taking tea with him or whatever and a Reverend is "Father". Been there, done that. \:\)

Indeed, the amount of pomp involved is outrageous - not exactly the best example of "Christian humility".

I would say, "Your grace, if Christ himself washed his disciples' feet, it does not seem to be the best example of Christian humility to insist on being called 'Your Grace' and 'Very Reverend'." But perhaps you can send that one ;\)

Kudos to you for keeping that shit straight!

Are they pretty easy going about it or is it a major faux pas (accompanied by a chorus of tongue clucking) to mistake a Father for a Your Grace?

LMAO @ the primate baptism! "My" Rector was an Oxford alumnus and a terrifically High Church show-off. He would undoubtedly have been delighted to be mistakenly addressed as "Your Grace"! He wouldn't have been averse to a bit of genuflection and ring-kissing, either . . . \:\)

“Vicar of the left hand”, now that I like!

Pomposity seems second nature to these people. “The emptiest vessel makes the most noise”; I think the same is true of roles that serve the least purpose; the more grandiose that title, the less they actually do.

Glad you received a response for the archbishop of ponce (must be true, it rhymed). I only wonder what his email looked like to the powers that be....

“Serious balls up guys!” lol

If I may play Jesus’ advocate here...
(get it, Jesus’ advocate??...eh you’ll laugh out loud later about it)

Many of us can actually take a lesson from the gracious and diplomatic reply from the “Very Reverend” David Richardson.

Although I don’t know the man, and there is very little doubt that our philosophies would ever agree, I can still see from the way that he presents himself with a few short sentences in his correspondence, that the man has class.

Undoubtedly more so than I, alas we must all wear the guise that we are provided/have created.

I do agree that the man conducts himself with serious civility. But, given the circumstances, he could do little else.

Oh, and i did laugh \:\)

Looks like the original link to their PDF is now dead.

Ah well, they haven't stopped THEIR 600 Club yet - in addition to this page, there are still various current PDFs on it. Perhaps someone here can give them an unholy boot up the rectum? ;\)

P.S. There was also another famous 'The 600 Club', and like this site, its name was also a parody of The 700 Club. Here's a clip preserved on archive.org (.mov format, VLC will suffice).
