I love poetry. While respecting Blue Suit disinterest in providing space to share poetry I must state my own interest in sharing good poetry.

I'm a poet. I'm ashamed to say that I have myself contributed to the massive piles of awful poetry in the world. But what makes me different these days is I have a strong desire to improve my own poetry and seek out examples of good poetry.

Here are three good poetry-related links. I wish to add more at a later date (if this thread is not deleted :P. ) If this thread is still here to read please feel free to post your own links.

http://www.classical-japanese.net/Poetry/index.html - a small selection of classical Japanese poetry.

http://www.languageisavirus.com/poetry-guide/index.html - Poetry Kaleidoscope: Guide to Poetry

http://www.raingod.com/angus/Poetry/Poems/c_baudelaire.html - A Charles Baudelaire page.

I too am a writer. I enjoy reading older and new poetry. It always gives me ideas to jump from and experience different writing styles. I tend to be of the less is more Trent Reznor type writer. And it's also very stream of consciousness. I visit two sites on a regular basis:
http://poems.com/
(a new poem/poet daily of different varieties)

http://www.poemhunter.com/
(I use it to browse older classical poets. Please skip the new ones. They sorta suck.)
But they have a very easy interface and carry my favorite poets like Plath and Neruda

The all-time champion of weird & magical poetry is Clark Ashton Smith, one of the famous "Three Musketeers" of Weird Tales along with HPL & Robert E. Howard. CAS' major poetic works are available online here. Don't miss his piece de resistance, "The Hashish Eater", which is guaranteed to ravish your mind. Whenever you're in need of an incantation for a Black Magical working, CAS is a great source from which to draw.

From the sublime to the ridiculous: If you've never made the acquaintance of Ogden Nash, here's a genius who never let the rules get in the way of poetic inspiration. How Satanic can you get?

As some 600C readers may recall, one of my gurus was [still is] Freddy the Pig, who was among his other talents an accomplished poet. A book of his collected works is available for the true connoisseur.

H.P. Lovecraft is most famous for his stories, but he was a commendable poet as well. Scroll down this page to his poetry, of which "Fungi from Yuggoth" is the most famous.

In the field of free verse, the elder statesbug is archy the cockroach, some of whose works may be scrolled down to here.

Finally I think I may legitimately mention my mother's Pegasus in Pinfeathers, which as noted certainly astounded me when I discovered it in an old, crumbling suitcase in the basement.

Personally, I love Lovecraft and most here do. However, the reason we don't want to read poetry is because we are trying to avoid the inevitable pissing contest over what constitutes 'art.'

What's more, we really don't want to spend a lot of bandwidth with 'your art.' Historically, most of the poets here have been pretty bad by any standard. And, most leave the usual emo drivel about 'poor pitiful me' 'life is dark' and 'I am soooo dark.' Really, that is not what we are about here so do save the drama for your mama.

I'm sure everyone above noted the thread about not posting one's own poetry, which I gather is what you're driving at here; but that's not the same thing as posting links & descriptions which 600Cers might find interesting. This certainly doesn't use up bandwidth - nor, of course, does anyone have to click on any such link. ;\)

Just to clear the air, I was using the quick post which default responds to the last poster. My last statement was a general comment and not directed toward you. This was sort of a 'if the shoe fits' comment.

Here are some links I consider “safe” to advance. Don’t blame it on me when you loose your Goodguy Badge, this stuff is not for amateurs.
