They're a money-making machine making a mint off the gullible. Just one bizarre cult/religion/source of misinformation (take your pick) of many.
Still, since this fruity myth is more modern than traditional faiths, it is thus less incorporated into the public's worldview - having the soul of a dead alien is a slightly less tolerated belief than having a man die for your sins.

So there might be a chance in opposing them. The Church of Scientology is a pretty powerful entity though, make no mistake about it.
It is unlikely IMO that exposing their lies and misinformation will have much impact on the faith of believers - or those inclined to unthinkingly serve and follow such charismatic leaders...

Believers will always find a way to psychologically 'compartmentalise' their faith (or superstition?), keeping it immune from rational criticism.

Suddenly, spontaneously, a movement has arisen. It has no leaders. It has no authorities. This movement is self directed by each member's own moral compass, and every individual walks in the same direction because that compass points to what is right. - Anonymous on Project Chanology

Its just another organizion that gives people what they want. They want direction, a reason why their life is the way it is, a reason why they make bad choices, and something that they can believe in. Another church, religion, cult, and etc.

Whats the difference between a cult and a religion...
One hundred years.
(ex: the mormons)

It is a pretty well connected organization just like the catholic church. They push issues, complain, and people on occassion die from what they experience within the walls of the organization.

Its nothing new in the whole scheme of human religious development except that it was codified by a science fiction author.

For as many people as it helps, it hurts. Its just what religions do when you use them to make decisions about your life instead of taking responsibily for your own life.

Exactly. Look at all the catholics that listen to the "teachings" on the morality of gay sex while their priests fuck the children, then donate money to them.

So...correct me if I am wrong.
Satanists are against organized religion
but Satanism is in itself a religion...?
...It has teachings and codes and stuff too,
right?
Or is Satanism just against organized religion
that focuses on a deity?

I am sorry if I seem ignorant,
I am still learning about Satanism so help me out
here.

Of PansGirl_v2.3

There are a few things to consider here:

First, many satanists (the individuals) are in fact against organized religion. And though Satanism (the ideology) itself is a religion, it need not be (as quite often is the case) organized.
The important thing to remember here is that the belief of Satanism in no way makes any commandment about one's ability to believe in or against an organized religion. It does however promote individuality and personal thought, where it just so happens that many individuals conclude on their own that organized religion is not for them.

There is no rule, only choice.

The short answer is no, but if you really want to delve into that a bit I recommend perusing the Satanism forum here.

Just to let you know, they are having/hosting a street fair in New York City near the end of June.
Should be interesting to see what they plan to do.

Usually street fairs have food, games, stuff for sale.
What will they do?
Toss a Ring around Xenu, win a goldfish?
Sit for a reading, get a free hotdog?

Morg

Ps. Honestly seeing their building complex in Los Angeles about a week ago was bizarre. Big blue buildings, and everyone dressed the same.
Kinda freaky cult-like.

They dont really have anything like that in Nyc that I am aware of.

Oh Naomi thats just didoes...

To those who's family members get caught up in such cults this subject can be more important... Beside global warming *pahh* the impact will take place well beyond our lifetimes... When I die as far as I am concerned life is over... What should I care how long humanity lasts?

Seriously what are you doing to make sure the Bush administration is held responsible for their crimes against the United States Constitution? Posting on a forum about it or complaining there is not enough being posted about it?

*you've made me giggle*

I have come under attack from the roman catholic church because I adhere to the teachings of DR. Anton LaVey. I foolishly let people know what I truly believed in. The Church of Scientology became a convenient "cover" for me. I took a few courses and donated some of my artwork. They were courteous and nice to me> They are, however, rather serious about collecting that money. I was actually escorted to and from the ATM when I was enrolling in a course! If I could only start a whorehouse or casino with such an enthusiastic staff, I would be rotten rich!!!. Oh yes, and there are many wealthy Scientologists. Perhaps now it would behoove them to make something of my donated work, make me famous, make me rich. Who cares what they believe in. I want their money, dammit.
