A minor mystery concerning the film Rosemary's Baby which I thought I'd toss out in case some 600Cer has a Satanic Sherlock Holmes talent:

In the film's soundtrack there is a vocal rock song. In the original soundtrack album it is entitled "Rosemary's Party", but in the recently-released expanded soundtrack it is retitled "Dream". [In the aforementioned original album, the title "Dream" is used for an entirely different track, which in the expanded album is now called "Coven #2". Several other original track titles have been reassigned or changed in the expanded album - why I have no idea.]

Anyway I have always been curious about the lyrics to that song, which are only intermittently clear when listening. But they are not included with the album, nor have I had any luck with a Google-search. So if anyone here has any ideas, I'd welcome resolution of this admittedly-trivial mystery.

Is this the one you're looking for?

"Sleep safe and warm.
From my arms no power can take you.
Sleep safe and warm
Till my morning kisses awake you.
In the softness of the night,
Like a silver colored kite,
All your fears will fly and disappear
By morning's light.
La la la...
In the softness of the night,
Like a silver colored kite,
All your fears will fly and disappear by morning's light.
Loving you as I love you,
Ev'ry night your whole life through,
I'll be gently watching over you
Sleep safe and warm."

No, the rock song is not a lullaby. You can hear a short clip from it here; just scroll down to the sample from "8. Dream".

A version is to be found here.

Not bad as lullabies go, but then I'm not entirely sure this is what you were looking for.

Oh, gagmewithaspoon that's horrible!

Not to mention that Andy's eyes were famously cat's-eye yellow ...

No, the "Rosemary's Party"/"Dream" song was rock; see above link sample.

I know which song you're talking about here, and damned if I can find anything on the lyrics! I'm still looking, but it's as if they just forgot about it when compiling any kind of soundtrack lyrics listing.

Strange.

I had some free time the other night this is part of my effort to giving the world lyrics to this song Dream by Krzysztof Komeda. This is what I believe I am hearing, sorry it is incomplete.

Dream by Krzysztof Komeda

What kind of thing is this, hanging by a thread
What is it I face, what is that ahead

Moment in time an illusion or real
What will I find if let my heart feel

Will it be fine if it starts right into pain
Then the desires make my world smothered in rain

Right away in a dream, what does this yearning mean, it’s all

(Come)
Now that love really No,

(Please)
Please come and journey No

(Save)
Take me away with you

(Me)
we will be so into

Caught in me, wildly sublime

Blah blah blah blah cause Ill be such a loser for her

(missing second singers lyrics)

Take me with me gently blah but never say I trust me battle

Does it fly, into your mind?

In(its) well heat and cold it does a bowl(boy) to hold

Moment in time I just can’t let you pass bye.
Moment in time, it both asks, means I must try.

Let it be said it be true that I find,
I will connect with my moment in time.

The lyrics in red including but not limited to the blah's are questionable while the rest I'm pretty firm on but will be open to other interpretation.

Jazzy

Ya got better ears that I do, Gunga Din!!!!

I tried listening to it as well, but I just couldn't get the lyrics. Must be my "old ears."

Interesting, thanks! Perhaps a few more listeners may piece it together. I think the version on the revised soundtrack album is slightly clearer than on the original, BTW.

Mildly surprising that this question apparently hasn't come up previously, since RB was as big a hit in its day as The Exorcist was in its, and everyone knows who wrote "Tubular Bells".

There was at least one rock spinoff from Rosemary's Baby - Deep Purple's "Why Didn't Rosemary [Ever Take the Pill]? - but I guess that wouldn't have worked in the middle of the movie.

It might have if Margaret was the Sanger (ba da boom!)

There was also a follow up (TV) movie called LOOK WHAT'S HAPPENED TO ROSEMARY'S BABY in 1976.

It took place many moons later. Rosemary (now morphed into Patty Duke) raised little Adrian to his maturity. Of course, he goes by Andy.

The synopsis is here: Look What's Happened to Rosemary's Baby

Pretty silly sequel; one of Stephen McHattie's less memorable roles. Clip here. Amusing that some wag thought to name his sidekick "Peter Simon". [Ba da boom!]

Here are some corrections to my previous interpretation. Most of the blah’s are deciphered, almost there now…

The red is still that which I'm unsure of.

Apparently no link to lyrics yet, but now we know the official name of the song at least.

Google doesn't seem to find the lyrics under Blair's name or the title, but he seems to have been a colorful & prolific songwriter. Funny to find his hand in something like Rosemary's Baby.

Well, in a last resort, I [or someone else sooner] can eventually drop into the Library of Congress Copyright Office and eyeball the file in question!

Well, I started with Ta2zz' latest above, then listened to the song on both the original and the revised albums (two different sessions). I compared my "ears" with Ta2zz', then jotted down my version, then asked Lilith to read it and listen to both versions. This is what we came up with after all of that:

 Quote:
MOMENT IN TIME
- by Krzysztof Komeda and Hal Blaine

Haven’t seen his face, hanging by a thread.
What is it I face, what is that ahead?

Moment in time, an illusion or real?
What will I find if let my heart feel?

Will it be fine if it starts right into pain?
Can this desire leave my world smothered in rain?

Why are we in this dream,
What does this yearning mean?
It’s all.

(Come)
Now that love really [no],

(Please)
Please come and take me [no].

(Take)
Take me away with you,

(Me)
We will be so into.

Caught in me, wildly sublime.

(Father)
Take me from her, tear her from me,
‘Cause Ill be such a loser for her .

(Daughter)
Take you me with me, take me now,
But never say I trust you better.

Does it fly into your mind?

Is all heat and cold impossible to hold?

Moment in time, I just can’t let you pass by.
Moment in time, in all this means I must try.

Let it be said if it’s truth that I find,
I have the dance with my moment in time.

It would be helpful if there were a "story" to the song, and/or if all of its sentences and fragments made sense, but so far I don't see that.

So if anyone else wants to give a listen and suggest any further corrections, be my guest!

It kind of reminds me of that abortion of a Bond ballad "Live and Let Die" in the way that it makes no sense to begin with and then goes on to make no contextual sense either.

If nothing else, I think it's been established that the song & its lyrics have nothing to do with either the plot of Rosemary's Baby or with Satan/Satanism generally - which was what sparked my curiosity in the first place. So I think we can disregard it as just a piece of filler fluff. Makes me wonder why Paramount bothered to include it on the soundtrack albums - both times not under its actual name.

Indeed it's hard to think of a song with more nonsensical lyrics.

On the other hand, "Tubular Bells" had absolutely no relevance to The Exorcist either. I've strolled through Georgetown many times and tinkling music never comes to mind. If it had been composed at the time, they could have subtituted "Stairway to Heaven".
