I can't be narrowed to three. So here's my list.
1. A fine sipping tequila. Something along the lines of a limited reserve Herradura, Patron, or Cabo.
2. A limited bourbon. Not only good for sipping, but has so many uses in cooking. Everything from sauces, to pastries, to desserts. Bourbon does not last long in my house. Especially a finer bourbon.
3. Flavored vodkas. Great for cooking. Great for drinks. Great for sipping. I am very particular to blueberry and pepper flavors.
4. Red wine. I am very partial to shiraz. Another good cooking ingredient and great for serving with the meal, or drinking while cooking said meal.
5. Beer. An easy to go to drink. When I want to just get hammered....any will do. If I want to enjoy it, then Guinness is my go to. Irish Car Bombs combine all my favorites. Beer makes it way into tons of recipes. Everything from bread to chili.
6. Irish whiskey. I am partial to Jameson's. Very easy to sip your way to a staggering night with that. So smooth. Again, something you can cook with.
I love cooking, and alcohol plays a role in a lot of what I cook. Not for getting bombed, but for flavor. Really, most of the alcohol gets cooked away and what you are left with is the flavor.

Everyone of these is right on.
Here are my picks for the month... yes I'm all over the place when it comes to drinking.
Pale ale and stout from the good folks at Cooper's brewery.
Chang beer!!! Incredible lager with the consistancy of an ale but never loses it's lager qualities. Crisp and refreshing; a great after yard work kinda beer.
Same Adams double bock. Yes it is making me fat. But it's a seasonal so I'm going for it.
Tres Pistoles, La Fin Du Monde, Maudite from the fine folks at Unibroue. Strong, sweet, full bodied.. and strong.
Samuel Smith's oatmeal stout. Hell, actually all of their stuff is good. But that is my personal favorite.
Ok. I have to get ready for work.
Cheers!

Hm... I think I'll pass on the snake blood. Drinking it sounds like an easy way to contract a disease or two. Did it do what it was supposed to do? Jes, I don't need no stinking snake blood for some sexual vigor. I'm young and naturally vigorous... i just need a big stinking muff in my face. I'm like a brand new florescent light bulb - i turn on real easily. You can't contract diseases from snakes... plus the stomach kills whatever is in there. At least that was what I was told.

I haven't tried this one, but it sounds pretty interesting:
Green Dragon
It's vodka with a certain herbal additive...
I expect that would be quite potent (though it's bound to taste like shit!)

I can't say I have; however I am of the understanding that water may not be completely healthy for you - that is why I mix between Tomato Juice, Orange Juice, and other fruit and vegetable drinks to ensure that I keep things on an even balance.

Bud wiper puts out a holiday bock.
It's respectable considering it's from the wiper crew. (Budweiser) It is a large 45.6 ounces (yes, it's a middle class 40oz . Much like the traditional bock which was created for lent in order to appease the lord and still get some calories in there. (Hurray for human nature!)
It is less sweet the then Sam Adams double bock and very approachable. If your local liquor store still has some I highly recommend it. I just polished off the bottle and I feel great, despite the calories.
Back story: I am the current beer manager at the Hawaii Liquor Super Store and our new owner is disgusted that we even sell it so we are giving it away to our loyals. I liberated a bottle tonight, naturally and am thrilled with the product.
So there are 23 of us online right now and I'm in the mood to fuck off in chat... any takers?
All bocked out,

I recently happened upon an herbal liquor called Zwack Unicum from Hungary. It tastes a bit like Jaggermeister but without the sickly-sweetness. It's not a shooter. It's also really great with a smoke
Ah yes, Unikum. I found it to be an aquired taste, but it is quite ok.
Actually, although it is very popular in Hungary (my native country), it is, I believe originally from Sweden. I am not sure if Hungary makes it or imports it, but it is not of Hungarian origin. It is also claimed that it has medicinal properties, and was used for such purpose originally.

For parties I have a steady stream of Cherry Bombs in production. The wait sucks, but they're worth it. Most recipes call for Everclear, but I've got some sitting in different flavored vodkas. I'll report how they turned out in about a month.
It's been just over two months and anything soaking in Everclear that long is sure to knock you on your ass. The Cherry Bombs did not disappoint. It was kind of like chewing a cherry flavored shot. I also had some soaking in black cherry and vanilla flavored vodka. The black cherry did nothing for me (honestly it was terrible), but the vanilla was really good.
Has anyone else tried recipes like this (soaking fruit in alcohol)?

I didn't bother to scroll up and read the rest of this thread. Did you post your recipe for these Cherry Bombs? I would be interested in giving them a try.
Drain the syrup from a bottle of cherries and pour in enough Everclear to cover them. Put the bottle in the back of the 'fridge until you think their ready. I left mine for about two months.

Let's see... I am partial to Jack Daniel's/Gentleman Jack. I love Whiskey. It has to be drank straight though otherwise it doesn't taste right. Nice and neat, no ice.
I am actually in the process of trying to learn how to distill my own mead. I've kinda gone off JD at the moment. I'm liking Scotch and Irish Whisky more at the moment. Probably because I got wasted on JD and coke on very little food in my stomach. You don't want to know what happened next. XD

I can't drink scotch anymore, not the cheap shit that is. My uncle kind of spoiled me in that regard; he let me have a few glasses of some scotch that he had imported from Ireland at $450 a bottle. Everything else taste like crap now. Sounds like you have a good story to tell, haha. I stopped drinking Vodka for similar reasons. Empty stomach and drinking don't mix.

Rookies. Drink a couple of beers before. Then you aren't drinking on an "empty" stomach.
I would rather just eat a piece of bread before I drink, if I haven't eaten in a few hours. Or eat while I drink, lol. I can't mix beer and liquor, I get to nasty of a hangover.

Moon Pie is certainly NOT a drink.
Or is it? One can never tell these days, but if it WAS a drink, please count me out. I'll let Jake999 handle that response, and will leave him to his fantasies of moon pies and Kool-Aid...
Anyone got suggestions for me I'm alway open to trying new beer.
In the past, I often experimented with trying "new" beer, especially the hard-to-find varieties. As the U.S. (bases?) is becoming more a global sellers-market, I believe some of these things can be found easier...
Try Stella Artois(Belgium), Moretti(Italian), Molson(Canadian), Labatt Blue(Canadian), Tecate(Mexican), Dos Equis(XX-Mexican) for what I think would be considered "lager-style".
There are also some "Dunkel" (dark wheat) and Hefeweizen ("light" wheat) beers that are definitely worthy of taking a gander. Usually easier to find near a German military base... which we do have here.
Best advice, find what you can and give it a try... you may just be suprised... or forced to drink a six-pack of the most disgusting sludge you never wanted to taste... it won't matter, you'll have the experienceregardless.
Now I will it leave Jake999 to discuss moon pies, and bikinis...

Beautiful.
If that wasn't descriptive enough a "Moon Pie" is a strange, compressed-cake, marshmallow sandwich of sorts... dipped in a waxy-chocolatey covering, wrapped in plastic... originally probably loaded with trans-fats, totally unhealthy, and utterly delicious. However, it would probably survive a nuclear-holocaust, due to the immense amout of additives and preservatives, a shelf-live of about 12,000 years.
Kool-Aid is similar in this regard, being a dry, powdered flavor water additive (add a horrible amount of sugar, to taste), I'm sure other parts of the world have something similar - you just don't know it as its "American name".
I believe the "Kool-Aid" comment by MT originally was meant as a joke regarding Jim Jones, founder of Jonestown, a social experiment went all kinda fucked, and many suspicions still remain. That's so far outta the way of this post, that I don't want to go into more of it here. Check it out, though - it's a fucked up piece of history.

I don't really drink any more, since my brother was killed by a drunk driver. Once in a while I might have a beer or a glass of wine if I'm in for the evening or someone else is doing the driving.
But when I was younger, I went through the prerequisite "drunk," for my 21st birthday at Wheelus AB at Tripoli, Libya. We were locked down in the barracks. There were no bars, so we had what was called a "Buffalo Party." Everybody kicked in 10 bucks (which was good money in 1969) and the barracks chief divided it into 3 amounts... 2/3 was for the "winner," and the rest went to the barracks fund and "the roper," whose job it was to tie people into their bunks after the competition.
The night started out with dinner in the chow hall, and then we went back to the barracks. Everybody grabbed whatever alcoholic beverages they had in their rooms and began pouring them into a cleaned out (I hope) metal trash container... big one. There was beer, and whiskey, and wine, and rum, and it all just kind of bubbled in a big mixture of alcoholic menace.
Then, the "Buffalos" lined up. The whole idea was to stick your head completely under the surface of the booze and drink as long and as much as you could before you had to come up for air. The barracks chief had a stop watch and a yard stick to take the measurements and times. The winner got the cash. Everyone else got tied into bed (the bunks were stacked, so we didn't want anyone injured falling out).
I don't remember much of the night.

absinthe or aftershock, I love absinthe when its served the traditional way with cold water. It tastes better than when its set alight as when its set alight it tastes like lamp oil.

I only drink spirits really and I like Hen VS, Hen XO, St. Vivant, Hen 1865, Hapsburg Hardcore, Bairensfathers Bitter, Captain Morgan Private Stock, Ice 101, Everclear, Eichelberger 78 and 68 and Courvoisier VS. Sometimes I will drink wine and I usually get Archetype Barossa, Farnese Sangiovese or Tawny Port. Rarely I will drink beer but I like Dos Equis and Guinness.

I'll never forget, my first drink was Captain Morgan Tattoo and remains my favorite, so that's No.1.
No.2 would have to be ice-cold classic Jäger.
No.3 is a tie between Southern Comfort and Absinthe, I can't decide. Everclear and Monster Energy go good together too (for me at least).

I don't know who your bartender is, but fire them. You never set absinthe on fire. No wonder it tastes like lamp oil. All you are doing is burning off the alcohol and concentrating the added flavorings.
I'm in complete agreement wth you, I don't understand why exactly the bartender would light the actual absinthe on fire I mean even in the Czech ritual you only light the cube.

I made a similiar drink however it was ayahuasca tea and I used vodka (Imperia) and mixed it 70/30 (roughly). That was a fuck of a night, lol.

i just had to pipe in to say i love your photo- from the mysterious stranger, no? i mentioned that in my book list. i love the claymation, and i love twain. people rarely think of him as a satanic author, probably due to the whole tom sawyer, happy go lucky sailing down the mississippi thing, but that man had some darkness lurking! he was absolutely progressive. and...... i'm completely off topic, aren't i? favorite drink- bellini, naturally. champagne and peach puree. maybe a trifle effete, but on the other hand, i allow myself to revel in my femininity. and i love bellini.

On Absinthe,
The Traditional French Absinthe Ritual Absinthe, because of it's bitterness, is traditionally served with a sugar cube. In the late 1800's and early 1900's, it was fashionable to serve the sugar cube on a flat, slotted spoon that held the sugar in place over the glass of absinthe. Water was slowly dripped on the cube, and the resulting syrup dripped through the holes in the spoon and mixed with the absinthe. As the composition of the absinthe liqueur changed, the alcohol percentage dropped, forcing the anise and other essential herbal oils to precipitate out. This caused the absinthe to take on a milky appearance, if it was made properly. (Poorly made absinthe may not show this effect. Additionally, poor absinthe often has color added to it to make it appear an unnatural emerald green.)
The Modern, or "Bohemian" Absinthe Ritual A new method of sweetening Absinthe has recently become popular. Once the absinthe is poured (now as a shot), a small amount of sugar in a spoon is dipped into the glass, soaked, and withdrawn. The sugar is then set on fire until it melts and caramelizes, and then is stirred into the drink. Cold water is then added to the drink to put out the alcohol fire.
So you can set it on fire if you like. Whether this makes it better or not I'm not so sure. I can't stand the stuff.

Okay, tonight, I've rediscovered my love for a variant of the cocktail Black Russian. I don't know if this is the original recipe, but it's the one I was introduced to.
The ingredients that I've used are thus;
Tia Maria Vodka Coca Cola
I used to drink this a lot back in the day when I went to an alternative night on a Tuesday in Ilkeston. Not only that, but it was buy one, get one free. I only needed £10 back then.
Shame it isn't the same now....
Either way, after nearly 3 glasses, I'm quite inebriated. Most satisfying.

Ok, I just have to add my own favorites.
Tequila Sunrise
Over ice in a rocks glass 1 heavy shot of Tequila Top with OJ A good splash of Grenadine (I'm only allowed to drink these at home being that the clothes stay on but I want to kiss just about anyone (male that is) when I drink Tequila)
Bend Me Over
In a mixer glass filled with ice Pour Crown Royal to the count of 3 over the ice Then to another count of 3 pour in Ameretto Another count of 3 pour in bar mix (sweet and sour) Then a good splash of Sprite Shake well and strain in to shot glasses
And for those that do like milky drinks....my own creation.
The B-Split
In a 12oz glass filled 3/4 full of ice A heavy shot of Kahlua A light shot of Banana Schnapps Top with milk/cream and stir (99 Bananas can be substituted for the Schnapps but go VERY light on it because it will seriously sneak up on you! I know all too well!)
The B-Split goes absolutely great with an Orgasm.
Orgasm
In a tall shot glass (about a shot and a half but only as wide as a regular shot glass) pour Kahlua to about 1/2 way Top with Irish Cream almost to the top Top with spray whipped cream so that the whole shot top is covered (start at the outside and spiral in to the center to create a small mound)
No hands, pick up the shot in your mouth and tip it back. Careful not to end up wearing the shot, because you have to swallow it all at once.
P.S. There is a bit of a trick to this shot besides just swallowing it all at once and once you try it, you'll figure out what the trick is. lol
I make a killer Long Island Iced Tea (tastes like tea all the way through but will lay you out flat within 2) and have a long list of practiced mixed shots, like Gator Piss, Harbor Lights, Blow Jobs, Maui Delight, Buttery Nipples, and on and on. I use to bartend and boy did I have a blast watching the men slide off of the bar stools after claiming I couldn't get to them with just 2 Long Islands because they drank regularly. I ended up taking bets and won 99.9% of the time.

My first post in ages
mine would be
Whiskey: Scotch,Bourbon,Canadian and Tennessee whiskeys (ex:Chivas,Wild Turkey,Crown royal and Jack Daniels respectively)
Beer: Heineken and Guinness are my current top beers, but ill take a good Pilsner anytime
Jagermiester(herb liqour) and Southern Comfort(whiskey liqour) are two of my top drinks
Vodka's that arent exxesively spiritous:Smirnoff,Absolut,SKYY etc are pretty good (skyy is very good in mixed drinks imo)
Then finally Bacardi rum and Gordon's gin.
Black Russian is probaly my fav mixed drink Either that are the straightfoward jagerbomb/vodka redbull

For one thing Jack isnt made in Kentucky but in Tennessee..i mean i know they are nieghbur states but Irish and Scotch aint the same either
+ It is filtrated different from bourbon and they use cave water not river water. While im not a huge fan of Jack Daniel's i wont call it a bad whiskey, much better than some of new shit there's on the market.
About Chivas,I love the complex taste but whiskey is all about differing opinions.
Never had Dimple actualy,i may have heard of it tough. Scottish Leader is a very good less-costly scotch, and probaly my favurite alltime whiskey.

Yeah Smirnoff and Absolut are both realy popular..but they are pretty good vodka's
If youre havin a party i suggest vodka redbull made with the blue label Smirnoff export 100 proof vodka and any good energy drink
Or something slightly more experimental:
100ml of vodka 100ml of blue powerade 100ml of water with gas (as in fizzy water) 2 energy drink fizzy tablets ice
The above mentioned recipe is a possible health risk.

as the subject says what is, or some of your favorite alcoholic drinks, lets go with top 3.
Six - because I don't drink much else alcoholic so this is an exhaustive list and also because I'm a hokey enough Satanist to just like the number six: 1. Amaretto (straight) 2. Kahlua (on the rocks) 3. Rum & Coke 4. Sweet white wine 5. Seven & Seven 6. Guinness
The above aren't in order. What I want to drink on any given day is mood-driven.
I became a Guinness fan when I visited Ireland and started ordering Guinness in the pubs.

Guiness- yum!
There's a lot of pubs in my area. The closest is an Irish-style pub that does an awesome counter meal. They also sell Kilkenny. It's similar to Guiness and is damn fine.
You may want to get the South Park jokes out of your system when you first order one :P . The guy behind the counter rolled his eyes at me when I started with an "Oh my God..."

"Snake Juice Mix"
*Get a small glass pot with a cup of as clean of water you can get and start it to boil. *Take 1/4th once Wormwood(and the Shoestring for taste if desired) and add it to the water already heating on stove. *Boil it until it is almost a think green envy color. *Strain out the wormwood and let cool.
1. 1/2 cup "Snake Juice"
2. 5 oz. Vodka(Grey Goose)
3. 1 small RedBull
Mix everything together and Slam it Down!
Enjoy!? ;-)

Although I'm a penniless Ph.D. student (I count my income in NEGATIVE dollars) I put high end scotch at the top of my list. To Wit: Tomintoule 27 year Glenlivet...
(Oh NOW look what you've DONE! I'm pouring a shot right now, I can't help it. What the hell, it's Canada day weekend and I'm taking a week off of my studying, etc.)
Glen Morangie, Glen Moray, (very old) etc.
Long Island (although I'm having a bitch of a time learning how to make a good one myself)
DARK beer - but I can't stand Guiness, it's a fad. Beamish (when we could still get it in Boston) or Murphy's
EXCELLENT flavoured vodkas mom makes (Someone else mentioned flavoured Vodka...we have to talk!)
various Martinis - A family secret is a Lai Chi martini invented by a friend of the family who manages one of Toronto's yuppiest restaurants. She cut her teeth as a bartender at a different one, and she's GOOD!
Anything fruity. (Personally, I'm not fruity, but I have a sweet tooth and love peach, orange, or raspberry ANYTHING.

Has to be Hine Cognac, developed a taste for it when I was in the navy and it really sticks with you. I also enjoy a bottle of Buckfast occasionally. As for beer it's Guiness thats my drink of choice I cant drink larger it has to be bitter.

It seems usually that the more expensive the wine, the more I hate the taste.
This may be because these wines (usu: over $50 USD per bottle) are not meant to be imbibed immediately. I'm of course talking reds here, as whites and bubblys are more accessible at the ground floor. I personally loathe Pinot Noir, however, one of my best wine tasting experiences was a perfectly aged DRC Grands Échezeaux - it made me rethink my taste.

I generally go with the “liquid glass” of vodka. Russian Standard’s Original St. Petersburg is the best I’ve tasted of the middle shelf varieties. I usually mix it with just enough clear soda to take the chemical edge off the taste -- I’m somewhat of a lightweight when it comes to alcohol consumption, preferring a couple of modest vodka & soda cocktails to straight shots. Just enough to dull the mundane stresses of the day, and take advantage of the restless energy liquor can usually generate.

Diavlo, I always felt that way on Karaoke night at the bar and I wasn't the one drinking! I worked there, so there was no escaping the fools that thought they were Elvis, Madonna or anybody else but themselves, after a few shots. It took me some time to get used to Crown Royal, but some times that was what I needed after a WHOLE night of those damn yowling cats.
Clicks, I've heard of Hpnotiq. It's a blend of fruit juice, vodka and cognac. At least the bottled version sold here. From what I was told, it's a good drink. I'm not sure about the mix you're refering to, with the wine and vodka. Although that does sound interesting too.
LOL Lucy, careful with the Tanqueray. It'll sneak up on ya and the next day might not be so nice. There are some great recipes for Tanqueray out there. If you like your "grape juice", check out some of the other drinks made with it. I had some customers that would insist on Tanqueray over any other gin.

Very interesting, actually. I've had multiple bone breaks due to skateboarding and mountain biking, and the bones get to hurting pretty bad when it's cold. So I'm wondering if that may help me also. I have no idea what causes the pain, really, so it's something to google.
Anyway, in the spirit of staying on topic, I would like to ask a question. Absinthe happens to give me my favorite drunk, however, I hate the licorice taste. Anyone know of anything I could mix with it to cut the taste? I've used Kahlua for a little while, and it gets the job done to a certain extent, but the taste of the absinthe is still painfully apparent.

Try grapefruit juice, it works.
