I'm trying to wrap my brain around the site, "What Do You Believe?" and why it would run this particular article about what happens to aborted fetuses in China.

Warning: Not for the easily perturbed-- Freedom of choice most rational in China

Just by reading the little Bible quotes on the right panel, and the pictures of road signs in Saudi Arabia at the top, it's obviously a pro-Christian, anti-abortion, anti-everything (anti-Australian? Really?). The wretched grammar, sentence structure and spelling speaks volumes about the site and the mentality of who is behind it.

But dammit, I need to get the images of babies cooked in stew out of my fucking head. Is this article legit?

I can't access the site right now. However, if it's the picture set I'm thinking of with baby stew, then they are fake. They were done by a performance artist back in the early 90's I believe. They are even on rotten.com.

Do these look like the same ones you saw?

I found the pictures of the performance artist "eating" a baby (a fake baby head mounted onto a duck carcass) and they look nothing like the ones I posted above.

Those are indeed the pictures I was thinking of. Oddly enough, I recognized his shirt after not seeing them for 4 years. This means I have new pictures of someone eating a baby (whether real or fake) to entertain myself with. The article also sounds pretty interesting. Damn, I hate this work network. I can't read anything good.

Nemesis, I took the last pic through Photoshop simply because the back rim of the plate doesn't look quite right. If you look close, the aqua color right above the "baby" head looks a bit disjointed, like it's been smudged, which can be done through Photoshop. When I took the pic through, it looks like the "baby" head has been Photoshopped into the pic. There's a strong contrast in the pixel differences compared to the rest of the pic as I enlarged the pic as a whole. Because of that, I took the middle pic you posted and did the same thing. That picture has definitely been Photoshopped to make it look like a "baby". Even the bowl at the bottom doesn’t match. It's very clear in that pic. I'm not sure exactly what kind of meat was in that bowl, but it definitely wasn't a baby.

I went so far as to take the first picture on the site through Photoshop and found that it's been manipulated as well. It looks more like that baby was a stillborn and someone added the bones to the pic to cover something like blankets or hospital towels. They went so far as to add shadows but never "smoothed" them out or completely ignored bones that should have had a shadow. In trying to "fix" the photo, they ended up "brushing" over the finger tips of the hand by the face with the babies "created" hairline.

I suspect the person that did the Photoshopping didn't realize that they needed to do a lot more clean up to the pics in order for them to actually pass enlarging and to look "real" enough that no one would catch on.

I know Snopes is not always completely right, but here's a link.
http://www.snopes.com/horrors/cannibal/fetus.asp

Just another Christian web site passing on their "shock and awe" campaign about the evil foreigners and to “help” save fetuses. You can clear your head of those pics, they are not real and I'd be willing to bet on it.

Snopes reports that assertions about Asian fetus cannibalism are fake, including but not limited to the performance artist:
http://www.snopes.com/horrors/cannibal/fetus.asp

One thing I think is interesting is that every article I've seen reports the exact same details in the exact same order. It's always supposed to improve "yang." There's always a 62 year old man with a 19 year old bride who invented the soup to improve his virility. It's always code-named "spare rib soup." The restaurant is always in Foshan, Guangdong Province, and the fetuses are always collected from mothers in rural areas. Never any new developments or additional facts to suggest actual investigation or reporting was done; rather, paraphrases of canon that suggest a single root source, probably one imaginative individual.

There are also never any identifying facts that could pin down the phenomenon, facts by which one could confirm or deny it. We never get the name of the investigator who took the pictures or discovered the restaurant. We never get the name of the restaurant owner or his horny teenage bride. We never get the name of the restaurant itself. All we get are vague, loose details that have "internet rumor/chain email" written all over them.

Another thing I noticed is that the arms and hands in all of these images of the preparation and serving of the fetus are a Caucasian man's arms. Why would a restaurant in Foshan have a white guy preparing the food?

I suspect, if these are pictures of a real human fetus, that this was staged by a pro-life group who obtained a fetus and then decided to do the most shocking thing they could imagine with it in order to make a statement and provoke outrage.

Stephen W. Mosher's book A Mother's Ordeal: One Woman's Fight Against China's One Child Policy goes into a lot of gory detail about the One Child Policy. If this were practiced, believe me it would have been mentioned. Never is there any suggestion that fetal cannibalism is acceptable in East Asian culture or that their superstition would suggest it boosts one's "yang."

Clicks, there seems to be a pic on Snopes too, that was of someone pulling the same kind of "stunt". This isn't anything new, from the looks of it. The pics from the site that Nemesis put up here are Photoshopped though. It's easy to tell when the pics are pulled through and enlarged.

Chef Gordon Ramsay was the guest chef for one of his Kitchen Nightmare programs. "Oh my GOD!!! You can't serve aborted fetus with carrots!!! Not carrots!!!!"

Yeah, I'd doubted the credibility of the images from the outset. I know that the Chinese can eat some weird stuff (undoubtedly why the abortion hospitals mentioned in the article claimed to be in Shenzhen and not Tehran, Lima or Warsaw). That whole website I found the article on was disjointed and heavily biased, which is what set off my bullshit detector in the first place.

Nyte, thank you for checking out those pics in PS. I'm no PS'er, so I had a tough time finding the "flaws" in these that tend to be so obvious once you see them. Those sorts of things remind me of the Magic Eye Art posters that were popular when I was in high school. I could NEVER see the shape in those pixels!

And I had read the Snopes page about the performance artist, saw the same exact written article, but didn't see those same pictures, which is what made me wonder.

Thank you all.

No problem Nemesis. Once I got past the knee-jerk response I had I started looking a bit more closely and could see where the pics had been manipulated. I suspect the people that made the pics expected anyone that viewed them would be so appalled that they wouldn't take a closer look.

I've used Photoshop a lot to do all kinds of picture manipulations, so I could see what was different from picture to picture and what was wrong within each picture. It gets easier to see when you've spent as much time on PS as I have. ;\)

I use to love the Magic Eye Art posters. Sometimes it would take me a while to get my eyes to adjust but I always found the "intended" image. Cryptic art (much like the Magic Eye Art) is some of my favorite art, simply because it's many smaller related images placed just right to create the larger image. The other ones I enjoyed were the 3-D Images, where you had to let your eyes get just slightly out of focus to see the 3-D picture. Hmm, might have to draw up a few Cryptic images now. It's been far too long.

I can't speak for anyone else, but this thread is making me hungry.

Why don't I see a deep fryer in any of these pictures? Amateurs.

HA there is actually a chinese short film called Dumplings all about eating aborted fetuses for supposed healing powers. If you're into shock film it can't be missed.

It's a segment of the "Three... Extremes." film.

That is not a bullshit article.

In greater parts of Asia it is a known tradition to eat the placenta with close relatives right after the birth of a child for prosperity and good luck.. It is the same tradition as burying the placenta in front of / under a tree in some countries and traditions.

For those same greater parts of Asia, it is also known to eat a dead fetus, not by murdering it, rather when it is born dead none the less.
Don't forget that cannibalism used to be normal in old Asian times .. And it still is in some remote parts as there is no capital punishment for it... In some places they never really made a law for it, allthough...

There is even an old sort of tribe that applies more or less the same ..(rather horriffic) they expose the corpse of the relative / member of the tribe on a wooden table under the burning sun .. After the bodily fluids start to drip in the gutters, it gets collected in a beaker .. Once the corpse is dried up.
They share and drink that fluid of the deceased person to take in the spirit. That way the deceased person will always remain among their people.
The world has shown to have some edgy sides.., so much is true.

The article is describing neither eating a placenta nor traditional consumption of a stillborn fetus, but rather trendy restaurants that prepare aborted fetuses. So even if your claims are true, it has no bearing on whether the article is BS.

All of the highlighted above is not the same as what the article claimed. Also, take a close look at the images (exactly what Nemesis was inquiring about) and you'll find that they HAVE been Photoshopped to look like a "baby" or images added to make a more "graphic" image for a foul claim.

I don't care if they eat a "dead relative", BUT the pics are bogus. I can't imagine 100's of Asian women going out to have abortions just to make dumpling soup. Although, who knows, they could be.

If the story is true about monkey brains, I'm sure the fetus one is to some degree, in some form. Just not the way it was portrayed or photographed/Photoshopped).

I know Nyte, i was speaking in the broader scope of the article and possible other ones covering that act.
If the images posted on the forum are fake or not, is what i leave in the middle .. I've never really looked for its credibility.
But i do know that it happens for real, that is why i would be not surprised .. You should go and look for some forums in the underbelly of the web .. There was a time such websites did exist and some of it can be found on the old Faces of Death and Mondo Cane (1962) VHS tapes.

On the other hand Nyte .. You might find yourself amazed on how deviant Japanese can be, and i'm not judging them nor am i trying to say that they are diffirent in their own culture.
In fact i shouldn't speak it out as my knowledge is pretty much limited about Japan and the more obscure sides of it. And i never said that 100's of woman are into that .. But do remember that in Japan a lot of pregnancies are unwanted thus uncalled for .. You could say that birth limitation works abortion and everything that may go on behind it, is merely the cause to that.

Anyways, we're going astray from the actual topic which is not the meaning.
