I saw this a couple of days ago and finally got around to posting it…

Some viruses come pre-installed

“From iPods to navigation systems, some of today's hottest gadgets are landing on store shelves with some unwanted extras from the factory — pre-installed viruses that steal passwords, open doors for hackers and make computers spew spam.

Computer users have been warned for years about virus threats from downloading Internet porn and opening suspicious e-mail attachments. Now they run the risk of picking up a digital infection just by plugging a new gizmo into their PCs.

Recent cases reviewed by The Associated Press include some of the most widely used tech devices: Apple iPods, digital picture frames sold by Target and Best Buy stores and TomTom navigation gear.”

Complete article here

Not that I think many of us ignorant enough to be connected to the Internet without the proper protection… This threat might not be considered when plugging in something as simple as a digital picture frame… This is also something to consider when giving a gift to a friend or family member…

It is also something to add to the list of poisons coming to us courtesy of China…

Enjoy…

Thanks for the heads up, with that article, Ta2zz. It's something that I never thought about until now.

I would like to see a response against internet terrorists who pollute our computers, equal the response to those terrorists that would pollute our water supply. Quick and deadly.

At least with PC's, it's best to build your own. Is it possible to wipe clean the hard drive on an ipod and install it fresh? I know that you can reset it, but you're not really uninstalling the program that it uses.

Good to know my PC is safer downloading porn than it is plugging into a camera ;\)

This is why I connect everything I buy to a basic linux rig and completely wipe it before using it. Any drive can be formatted via dos.

I thought the title of this thread was in reference to Windows Vista.

I almost said not to be confused with the current virus known as windows vista... Then I realized I used to say that about XP and left it out... ;\)
