Back in the 90's I lived in Japan, in a small town in the mountains named Kasatsu. I was there three months and we only had local tv.
I didn't speak more than very basic Japanese, so couldn't understand the language anywhere near well enough to understand tv.
Still we watched anyway. The daily sumo wrestling was quite good, but there was this other show which I think was 'pick the prostitute'.
The would line up about 12 girls in their underwear and big black sunglasses. Then, they would take the cameras over their bodies and talk to them, pointing out and talking about (I'm guessing), any bruises, razor rash, or ingrown hairs they may have.
Then they would show a short 5 min or so segment on a brothel or a bondage dungeon (I kid you not), or strip club and finally they would choose one of the girls (the one that works there maybe?) and many laughs would be had.
It was most bizarre and was on 5 nights a week at about 5pm. Go figure!
After watching that, nothing I see coming out of Japan surprises me. LOL
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass - It's about learning to dance in the rain.
I really enjoy (what little I know of) modern Japanese culture, and their entertainment. It would be great to visit sometime. It's also amusing how they were able to embrace some of our Western culture, but while we fucked ours up, they just have fun with it, without taking it too seriously.
