It was only for a few weeks in college, before I became atheist, but I found that people were so much more accepting of it than my atheism. It's like, I accepted that their God existed, so it was ok that I positioned myself in opposition, as long as I knew all about their Bible.

This is quite interesting. Sweden is a very secular country and I dont believe anyone really has had any trouble with self-professed Atheism. However I have studied religion and did visit a church that is famously extreme in their beliefs (compared to mainstream christianity as represented by the swedish church).

They were explaining to me that hell was the abscence of God and this stuck with me and it did indeed lead to the reasoning that it is better that you believe that our God exists and take opposition rather than denying Gods existence alltogether. In the same way they didnt particulary like other theistic religions but they prefered it over Atheism because it recognized a spiritual and divine reality.

The huge quantity of Satanic replies left me nonplussed. I have never seen so many responses to a thread on this web-site, but I don't venture here often as I'm grossly occupied with other things. But, I come here as often as I can which is less frequently than I'd like. 'Oh, well' you'd plausibly answer. But, I have yet to post something for this discussion (thread), so here I go!

The idea of Satan as espoused by contemporaries who have penned documents are a guiding force for a Satanist as we 'unlock the door, thus, opening it.' Basically, it's a mental effort as we view the changes objectively. For an individual to acknowledge an affiliation with Satanic thought of epicurean (principled) carnality, assertion of individuality, applied adversity, etc. is a gorgeous sight! \:\) A freethinker who has undergone self-training by studying diabolical thought then selectively integrating the concepts into their being, seeing, and acting cautions another. We hunger for information, and are patient to administer the black magic for well thought-out plans of action. Shame on the naysayers! The fuckers are torched. Those who proclaim to align themselves with 'Evil' deserve whatever public recognition we can mobilize. We all agree that there are rubrics that must be investigated and understood, and one way to gather black knowleadge is to make oneself read through all these posts!!! LOL

A fact: Wherever you may go, and whatever you may do your a spitfire.

In earlier times I was very open about it. However I only tell my friends, even then I made a mistake and a loud-mouthed friend told a large number of people, like everyone he met while I was around. His loud mouthed actions cost me quite a bit, a few girls and a few fights I did not need. since I have left that area I haven't told a soul but I dont hide it either. My copy of STB is proudly displayed in my room. To admit to being a satanist could be my downfall here, and so it will remain hidden.

Ever since i have read the Satanic Bible i have know i was a satanist, a few years ago when i first realized it i was somewhat of an immature highschool student and told people to see their reaction. That ended out causing more issues than i thought it would. So I spent a few years not speaking of it to anyone and getting a much better grasp of what it is about. Now days i don't bring it up but if someone asks i have no problem telling them.

I tread cautiously in public. While I am certainly not ashamed of who I am I am also very aware of the negative repercussions flaunting my "difference" can make. I tell friends if they ask but generally I keep it quiet and don't display any blatant signs - so to speak.

When I'm around people I see on a regular basis (school or work), I don't make a point of introducing myself as a Satanist or being overt, but I'll answer if I'm asked what I am. The two most common reactions I get from established acquaintances are, "What is Satanism?" or "LaVeyan, right?"

On the other hand, in a public setting, I often make a point of wearing a Sigil of Baphomet if for no other reason than it gets people to leave me alone. Back before I wore the sigil, I was approached by every obnoxious type imaginable because I looked friendly and receptive. The missionary would tell me about the love of Jesus. The histrionic would share her life's stories of heartbreak and woe. The crazy drunk would rant about Obama, socialism, and the attack on white people in America. The bratty little kid would start kicking the back of my seat. The salesman would start showing me merchandise. Charities would solicit me personally for donations. Activists would ask me to sign their petitions.

Publicly wearing the Sigil when I go out grocery shopping, eating, to the laundromat, or elsewhere has put an end to all of that. Far from provoking people to say something, it seems to shut most people up.

As I've stated in my introduction, I first read the Satanic Bible - along with Mr. LaVey's other satanic books - about 20 years ago. And although I saw so much of myself in the writings I never believed in following someone else's philosophy - even though I came to the conclusion that I was a Satanist - so I put it away.

Several months ago I reread the book, along with LeVey's other satanic books and have come to realize and embrace who I truly am. I'm just now becoming comfortable with calling myself a Satanist. Not only comfortable but proud.

I haven't made any public declarations about it because that's not who I am. But I also don't plan on hiding it either. If a stranger finds out about my religion and is shocked or offended, I truly don't care. But I plan on slowly letting my family and friends know. And if they're shocked and offended - as much as I love them - that's their problem.

I think society should be taught about real Satanism - not to convert more people because most people don't have the common sense or even the balls to study it. But just to have all the misconceptions cleared up.

It's truly the only religion that makes any sense.

I am a Satanist in public.

My dress is generally neat and business appropriate. My hair is short and neat in appearance and I have no tattoos at present (though I'd like one), no piercings, no outward indicators of my religion. This doesn't mean that I'm not a Satanist in public.

This simply means that I've found that in giving people no reason to suspect me, then their default position is to trust me. I have designed my outward appearance to best facilitate my personal goals. I have two small businesses and a corporate job and the successes I've had therein are all resultant of my embracing of my own personal power.

Some may spot the wolf under the sheep's clothing. Most do not have the acumen and/or the inclination to look too far beyond their own pursuits.

When I hear people of any “faith” based religion or opinion state the above, it makes my stomach turn, and I run the other way. Uneducated lazy fucks at one point attempted to say the same thing about “Ebonics.” I didn’t want to hear about that either.
I also don’t expect those individuals who care about their belief systems to care that much about mine. I only did a study of their beliefs because I believe that it’s wise to know ones adversaries, but I don’t expect them to feel the same.

You have to admit though, because of Ebonics, In Living Color reached a whole new level of comedic gold.

I would have to agree. There is also the time honored question of "what constitutes real Satanism?" Is it campy 60's diabolism with hot naked chicks on a table? Is it thirteen-year old Slayer fans mumbling the Lord's Prayer backwards at night when their parents aren't home? It's a nasty can of worms that is better off closed.

The less the great unwashed know- or think they know- about it, the better. The thing I love about Satanism is that it can't be neatly defined or whitewashed. Sure, every so often you have the occasional bloke who feels it's his duty to run around blathering nonsense about Satanism being "respectable" and "not evil", but they don't tend to last long.

I'm not talking about getting on your soapbox and preaching your beliefs on a street corner. I'm talking about not letting some dipshit put you in a hole because they're too ignorant to get it. I'm talking about having an intelligent, rational conversation with someone to set them straight ONLY if you feel the need arise. I'll state that again: ONLY IF YOU FEEL THE NEED. You don't have to get into an argument every five minutes. But don't back down from one either. And don't be afraid to talk about it in public. If I make another satanist "run the other way". Great. Or, if I make their stomach turn, I'll buy 'em a bottle of Pepto. Then I'll go out and take all the glory and attention.

Let me state two of my favorite quotes:

"Fortune favors the bold"
&
"The strong inherit the earth, the meek inherit shit"

I would not lie to someone about who I am or what I believe, but there are situations in which it can be violently counter-productive to flaunt Satanism. I never throw it in people's faces. I do not want to convert people. Someone who does not come to his chosen path genuinely and of his own volition is nothing but a detriment to said path. My current desire is to study and acquire as much knowledge about things that interest me as possible. I have no desire to evangelize or try to get someone to "see it from my perspective." I find life to be much more rewarding when I do not waste my time or energy talking or arguing with people who will never accept what I believe and whose opinions and beliefs don't mean a thing to me. Involving myself in that is such an unproductive drain on my mental energy and such a rotten way to spend my few personal moments on this planet that I would gladly smile and nod to go on my way to live my life as I wish. I have noticed in the past few years that people who would salivate over the prospect of "debating" with me seem to steer clear of me. I find that my disinterest in participating in a world that does not appeal to me has run both ways and those nice gentlemen on the street with pamphlets and neatly trimmed hair look through me and walk past me like I don't exist. Perfect. I have no desire to exist in their world. I am not theirs to understand. I am not theirs to dismiss.

This religion is my own, it is what I believe in, I will not force feed others my religion as they have done to us for too long. However if I was asked by someone I would happily tell them what I beleive as long as they show respect or I will destroy them!
