Hi Guys,

For those interested in playing some poker, Fake Prophet and I are setting up a time for those interested from the 600 club to play some poker against each other on

Friday Night July 11th at 9pm EDT, US time.

That will be Saturday 12th 10.30am CST in Australia.

Any others I'm sure you can work out for yourselves. Obviously you can join the game later than the start time, if you are somewhere that makes that time unsuitable for you, but we would prefer to keep the start time where it is ATM.

We will be playing no limit texas holdem. I would say that we will keep the blinds low this first time around say 10/20 (unless you guys want to make them more?) and there is no real money involved, but rather points.

We will be playing at a private table, just for us 600clubbers. I think that there will also be a range of skill levels, so if you are only new to the game, don't be afraid to give it a go!

If you are interested in playing, you will need to have either a Myspace, Facebook or Hi5 account, and will then need to have a poker account with one of them also.

So get practising kiddies!

For more information please PM either myself or FP.

Zeph

Would that be like the Texas Hold 'em account I saw in Facebook applications? Well IS that what it is I suppose I should say. I would gladly come, I'm just going to figure out what time it would be and if I can make it. I'll most likely be seeing you there.

I'm in Eastern Time Zone - Montreal, Quebec. I've been trying to find out what time it would be for me, but for some reason different things, give me different answers...

A site said I would be 9 PM, my phone is showing that it would be 11:48 PM in Adelaide if it is 10:18 AM here.

I'm going to keep looking, if anyone knows the immediate answer, just post it here I suppose. I'll be checking up.

See you soon.

In waiting,
~Snow~.

Okay so you and I are 12 hours apart? Makes sense. Thank you very much for going out of your way.

Was I right, is the poker you are talking about the Texas Hold 'em App' in Facebook?

I had it added once but deleted it I think, if it's the one I'm thinking of, I'll re add it. Or you can add my Facebook Zeph. My name is Mike Snow, then just invite me to the application/game, and I'll add it to my sidebar.

My regards,
~Snow~.

I don't have a Facebook account, but I have played against plenty who do, so I assume it is the same thing. I added a Texas Hold'em app to my Myspace, and that gained me entry. I play against a bunch of players using different sites, mostly the ones Zeph listed. So I speculate they all run off the same application. There is a link to see who is playing and a way to list friends so you can find them and join them.

Zeph, maybe we ought to push the date out a little further to allow others interested to familiarize themselves with the play and time zones, etc.

Either way, If I am online on Myspace, I'm usually game for some play. Anyone using that can invite me or find me. In fact, if I am not terribly busy or pressed for time, I am always game for some head's up or a sit and go. Free or for cash.

I think we should stick to the time listed, but then if we enjoy it, we can maybe make it a monthly or quartlery event?

Yes, it is the same application from all those accounts, its the Texas Holdem Poker by Zynga.

Oh, ps Piggy, the 9pm Friday night is your time. The first time listed is a US time,

I have put the Australian time underneath, so it's not 12 hours difference.

Hmmm. See I knew we had this set up. But I forgot the time. I was pondering taking my wife for another tattoo and getting myself the second one I had my artist draw up. No problem, I will push that off to another day. I will try to log on to myspace prior to the arranged time. Look for you, maybe work out whatever kinks there might be. LOL, my A4os took out a guy with pocket Ladies last night in the live game I play. He played it miserably, especially after the flop when I caught 2 pair. Never once reraised me, check raised me, or showed muscle. Though when he didn't catch on the flop and an Ace hit the board, he was right to just call. But then move all in on the river?

Well looks like I won't be able to make it after all.. I hope this gets arranged again sometime.

Turns out I'm working 'till 6:30, then taking my girl out for the weekend. I apologize, and as previously said, I hope we can make arrangements for next time.

Take care everyone,
and to anyone who goes, have fun, may lady luck be with you, and the cards smile in your hands.

Nice hand. Yes, I find that if I have a strong pair dealt me I generally make a big bet, to scare away as many of the people holding hands like the one you talk about as possible.

Still, when playing for points, there is often one who will still call you with a shit hand, just because.

Anyway, I don't want to give away all my playing techniques yet ;\)

BTW, I've done a little checking about bugs, and found that unlees someone stays in the table once it is made it disappears, soooooooo, I will create a table on the Gold Coast server call it The600Club and make the password 666 at about quarter to 9 (your time) and wait in there for any takers.

At this point I'll leave it with the standard 9 players, although I don't think there is 9 of us playing yet.

If it turns out that no one comes then I'll go eat worms LOL, no I won't care, so don't feel over obligated. I shall hang around for about an hour before I delete the table.

Cool Guys, so to recap

Gold Coast server
Private Tables Tab
Table Name = The600Club
Password 666

Yes, I will toot my own horn. I came out the big winner. I had to rebuy twice. But eventually, I took all of Zeph's chips and another Aussie bloke's. I ended up doubling up for the night.

Zeph, if we get enough interest and players, we might be able to organize a tournament session similar to the one I play in on Tuesday nights. Points are awarded based on your finish. The top point earners are invited to play in a special tournament where the winner gets an entry into the WSOP and all expenses paid. Though I ain't paying for any one to go to Vegas, we might be able to score players and then hold a special tournament for fun for top players. Just a thought.

Ok then, yes it was fun for a while. But being the other Aussie bloke whose chips you removed during the game, I am obviously not entirely satisfied with the end result.

I could hear you tooting your own horn from all the way down here in Adelaide. I admit that have a few wounds (nothing serious) ;\) that I hope with some care and some rather extensive reading of some poker literature will heal very soon. Thank you by the way for the lead to the afore mentioned poker literature. I will be more prepared for the game next time, if given the opportunity to play poker with you again.

I have at least learned something from todays chip pilfering efforts of the victorious Fakepropht. If I get a rush of blood during a poker game and my confidence is at an all time high, I should think very seriously about following a more experienced player than I to go "all in"

I hope that a few more people can come and join us in what, (for me anyway) was a bloodbath ;\)

Ah, I was not aware that you are indeed the one that I so greedily robbed. Welcome. It was a fun little game. More so for me I guess. I will drop a few hints to you to tighten up your game. Know when you are beat. There were many hands that you should have given up on. When you do buy and read a book, make sure it has a good, easy to understand section on odds. Outs, implied odds, pot odds, etc. If you are drawing to one card, and getting less than 3-1 odds to call, fold the hand. Explore the re-raise. So many players online are afraid to use the re-reaise. Though I liked your aggressiveness when you had trip Q and I had a pair of Aces. I should have bailed on that hand. But there was a chance another Ace would come and kill your Queens.

As to why I raise 35. It disguises my hand. It is 3 1/2 times the big blind. So if we were playing $100 a hand, I would make it $350. Or if it was $4 a hand, I would make it $14. That is enough to scare out the people with a weak hand, yet just enough to get a call from someone with a strong hand. Now, if I consitently raise the same amount each time, my opponents won't really know if I am holding pocket Aces or a lowly 8 3. Then depending on the flop, and my position, I can decide to follow up with a bluff if nothing hits for me, or fold, or play it strong if I do have a great hand.

Anyway, I hope that gives youa few hints. Also, I hope that more folks come join us. It was a fun game, and didn't cost anything. Xear? Daevid?

Yes a few more would be good. There was only the three of us this time, although my daughter played my hand for a little while (taking all of Speedy's and FP's money at one point she did), but experience won out in the end and she lost it back.

I lost a little, although no where near enough to be upset about.

So I'll set another date for about a month away, lets say

8th August 9pm EDT again. That's EDT US TIME PIGGY. LOL

That is flexible though, if you have a time you would prefer (and are going to show up for).

Thanks again Speedy and FP for a good time.

Same, I'm hoping to make it to the next one. The only thing that gets in the way is work, and I'm usually home at 9.

Just a suggestion, should we make it in 2 weeks instead? A month seems an awful long time, especially for someone like me who missed it. Get back to me on it.

Take care,

Whew, I almost forgot this was the 8th. I was thinking it was this weekend. I thought I was going to have to bow out. I should still be able to make this. Yes, I am guilty of giving this a bump. Only because I want to remind folks this is coming up. My skills may be a bit rusty this go around. I haven't been able to fit in a single game since the last game we played. Been far too busy. But I still keep in practice in the live game each week. Speaking of.....last night did I ever walk into a bloodbath. Late in the tournament. I was fresh off a beating I took from being in the big blind. I was still stacked pretty well. As dealer, I thought I would try to steal the blinds by doing my standard 3x the blinds. I had K3 suited. I was only hoping to pick on them and cause them to fold. Well the big blind raised me back. He moved all in, which was only a few 1000 more. Now I had to call. I walked into his pair of Aces. Bad timing. I ended up going home shortly after.

BTW, if anyone cares, I have a poker group on myspace. Nothing much happening there right now. Maybe with more members it would pick up. Also, my myspace page offers rants and insights to playing the game. I have it set to private. Drop me a PM if you would like to join, and I will add you. I am no pro, but I play a lot, and have seen and been involved in some crazy stuff. Perhaps I can offer some advice to improve your game. Zeph is no slouch either.

guess that's why I rarely play for money atm.

LOL, after you left tonight, I did fleece them. I think I took every pot thereafter. I had 99 and 77 back to back and hit for trips. Next was AJ and hit an A. Then to add insult to injury, and cause the entire table to leave, I hit 3333. I played my 33 for a standard raise. I hit a 3 on the flop, with a possible flush draw out there. I bet pot and was called. When another 3 came on the river, I just about spit beer on the screen. I bet pot again, hoping he was chasing a flush draw. I don't even remember what the last card was. I bet pot again, hoping for a call. By then the pot was 540. He called and when I showed my Quads, everyone bailed!!!! It was like I farted in church. I guess I should rub my Baphomet statue prior to playing more often \:\) In fact, I may bring it to the live game I play and use it for a card capper. That should surely put the fear of God in them.

And what the hell with catching pocket pairs so often and then having them hit? I only wish I could have that same luck when I am playing for real money.

Cool. They were arrogant fuckers looking for a thrashing, I told you I had a feeling you would.

I'm just going to keep building points again, see if I can crack that 250k mark this time, without going on tilt and loosing everything LOL.

Try again for 4 weeks time, hopefully we will get some more takers? What is up with everyone? Scared or a little ole FakeProphet and Zeph? (winks at FP, maybe that will get them riled up).???????

General open question....

What makes a good poker player?

I'm kinda new at this.
I was just watching the last hand of the wpt and it was one guy with a k&7 and another with an 8&7?
Anyway, the guy with the k&7 won over a million bucks with 2 pairs 3&7's.

Is it being able to see beyond the odds and take a chance that makes a winner? I just dont see how playing it safe all the time will win you anything.

Am I wrong?

Thanks,
Morgan

Playing it safe isn't always going to win no.

A good poker player, keeps the others he plays with guessing. By this I mean, not being obvious that you have either a good or bad hand.

Knowing the odds and being able to read your aponant. Playing your position on the table properly.

IE the dealer bets last, so doesn't have to have as strong a hand as say the person betting first, because he can see what others are doing first. But if I am first, I need to be more confident of my hand, as there is more chances of someone calling or raising me.

I'm sure FP can enlighten you alot more than me. I've only been learning from websites, where as I know he's also read alot of books on the subject.

I can go into great length on this subject. There are a million variables that come into play. Position, amount of chips, blinds, number of players, stage of the tournament, the way the other players play. But I won't. This might be better handled in a pm. I could take up a lot of banwidth with this question. To cite an example that is barely 24 hours old. I played in a tournament yesterday in Atlantic City. It was final table, and we were down to about 8 players. The short stack moved all in in first postion. He had been playing tight, hoping that others would bust out ahead of him and he could move up in money position. So this meant he had a solid hand. I was next and I looked down at Ace Queen of clubs. At the final table, this hand is a monster. I have a ton of outs, and am favored over most hands. I had more chips than him, so I pushed all in. Hoping to isolate him, and take him out and gain his chips. The chip leader folded. The guy next to me moves all in from the small blind. Now this can't be good. The big blind also moves all in. He is second in chips and has enough chips to call all of us. This is highly unusual. You rarely see four players pushing all in like this. Sincet there will be no more betting, we all flip up our hands. The short stack has the same hand as me, only AQ of hearts and diamonds. The guy next to me has Ace King unsuited. The guy in the big blind flips up 2 3 suited. Now I don't know how much time you have playing, but 2 3 suited when 3 players have moved all in is a very weak hand. It was going to cost him half his chip stack to make that call, since I had the highest amount invested in the pot at that time. He was playing very reckless. He should have folded that hand. All I remember from the flop is that it came a card, 2 3. He made two pair. Since all the rest of us had and Ace, and two of us were sharing the Queen, it would be hard for us to catch an out to win. A club did hit on the flop. Which slightly helped my hand. The next card was a dud for all of us. It was not a club, A, K, or Q. So we are all drawing dead. It doesn't matter what card comes next, we are all eliminated. I don't even remember what it was. Bottom line, a player eliminated 3 others with a shit hand. Very few players that make a living playing poker would have played the hand he did. Call it luck, but that hand never should have won. I was actually the pre-flop favorite. Only because I was suited. Well I finished 5th. In the money, but bitter as all hell. I can't fault the other players for doing what they did. No one would fold AQ or AK. So I guess this would be an example of where not playing it safe paid off big time. I could have met that dude in a side street and ripped his teeth out of his jaw for making that call. I would have still lost the pot to the guy that called with AK. But I had him covered in chips, and could have lived on compete for a better finish. Plus we would have eliminated the short stack. Now cash games are different. You have to make some risky plays. Like I said, I can go to great lengths on this subject. To answer your question, yes sometimes you have to play risky. I didn't make it to the final table by only playing KK or AA. I think the hardest part for a new player is being able to put an opponent on a hand. If you can develop that skill, and recognize when you are beat, it will carry you far. I laid down a lot of big hands that I thought were beat.

I'll have to check my stuff, but if I have nothing going on, I will be there. I have VIP status there now, so I can probably set up a table as well and might even be able to spread some perks. I will look into this. I'll be bringing my pirate's chest of chips. I can offer tips and commentary. Like I'm Johnny Chan or something, LOL.

You're fine. You're also right. It is lose.

But, are you game to play? That's the big question.
